First I'm wondering what good it does to go above 100% in thief skills. My level 9/10 fighter/thief has 100% or more points in stealth, find traps, and open locks. Does it do him any good to add points above 100% or is that just wasteful? I don't use pickpocket in general, and I don't want to put points where they'll be wasted if I don't have to.

And a found a ring of strength ( STR +1, DEX -1) and tried it out on my paladin. He went from STR 18/96, DEX 18 to STR 18/00, DEX 17. :( Not that big of improvement. Is this the way it works? So, say, before a fighter of even STR 18/99 can get to STR 19 they still need to get a bonus to get them to STR 18/00? If a non-fighter with STR 18 gets a +1 STR bonus do they go straight to STR 19? Also does this STR +1 rule apply in all three games (BG1/2, and IWD)? This could effect how I roll my future fighters. Thanks.

    [IMG] okay, first one:
Yes, having Thieving skills above 100% is useful, as there are modifiers ingame that can reduce your chances (More light, better concealed trap, etc.)

    second:
Fighter classes all have a Percentile progression from 18/01 and onwards. the exact levels of the percentile are listed on pg132 of the manual. But yes, a paladin with 18/96 who gets a +1STR would go to 18/00. That is the Next level of STR, with an additional +1 to hit and damage.

I am not positive about this, but I believe non-fighter classes do not use the percentile STR progression after 18. I'm pretty sure they can't even get above 18 STR thru normal magical means. Besides, 19 STR on a nonfighter seems kind of a waste.

Far as I know, all the above applies to all the Infinity Engine games. (BG1,2, IWD&HOW, and Planescape!)

Anyone that's more knowledgable in these things than I, feel free to correct any mistakes I've made. I won't seek revenge for you sullying my honour, nope, not me. *^_^*

Oh, and, like, Hello boarders! ;)

    [IMG] Hmmm...

Now what if you're, say, a STR 18/01 fighter and you get a magic +1 to strength. Does his STR go to 18/51 (the next step up according to Table 1a p.132) or to 18/00?

[I know, I know... I should stop picking at the rules and just play the darn game...]

It would go to 18/51 the next step in the chart. Tehn to 18/76, 18/91 and so on.
