I've picked up the game yet another time, and once again I've slipped into the richness of the storylines, characters and moods. But damnit all - I wish the pathfinding was better. I've searched through the various mods, patches, etc. but I cannot find a definite solution. Are there any?

You could try increasing the number of pathfinding nodes in the torment.ini file. I think it's set to a pretty low value by default (like in BG). Using higher values won't perform miracles, but I did seem to make things a little smoother.

Yes, the base value for path search nodes is set really low (you must remember that even 'medium' computers today are on average about 5 times more powerful than those in 1999).
