Um, that's the mod I was talking about when I mentioned the quest screw-ups and making a better version.

Felinoid you make a valid point.

Here is my list of where NPCs should be.

Ajantis - Should be located in a temple, mabye with the mayor of Beregost.

Alora - She is the thief that needs her boots of stealth back and upon returning them she would like to join your group.

Brawen - She should be in the Basslick area that would make more sense with her being stone.

Eldoth - In the mines where Yeslick is.

Imoen - She should met up with you at the FAI after you pick up Jaheria / Kahild or she comes to your aid when you fight the assassin at FAI.

Kivan - After you clear the mines you should be able to find him in one of the areas that lead up to the Bandit Camp, not in High Edge and not so early in the game.

Minsc - Injured/Near Death fighting the Orgillians or Right when you enter the Gnoll fortress he approaches you.

Montaron / Xzar - North or South of Beregost and on the road. You may encounter during a skirmish with Xvarts/Kobolds.

Shar-Teel - Field Post Inn, you encounter her right after you talk to Marl - one, two punch.

Quayle - You may find hime at FAI after the Naskel Mines.

Yeslick - Before you enter the Cloack Woods Mine you may find him at the FAI.

The following NPC should not be moved.
    Coran
    Dayheir
    Edwin
    Jaheria / Kahlid
    Korgan - Is he BG2?
    Skie
    Tiax
    Xan

Felinoid, do you like my recommendations. Some of them are so hard to place or just shouldn't be move. The one person I had a hard time placing was Tiax.

    My original ideas:

Ajantis - A temple or inn would be a good idea.
Alora - Pretty much anywhere you can steal stuff.
    Branwen - Fine.
    Coran - Fine.
    Dynaheir - Fine.
    Edwin - Fine.
Eldoth - Where Quayle is, right outside the gate.
    Faldorn - Fine.
    Garrick - Fine.
    Imoen - Fine.
    Jaheira & Khalid - Fine.
    Kagain - Fine.
Kivan - Somewhere in the Wood of Sharp Teeth (Larswood, Peldvale, etc.)
Minsc - Fighting a large group of gnolls (a la Drizzt) just outside the Gnoll Fortress.
Montaron & Xzar - On the road somewhere between FAI and Nashkel.
    Quayle - FAI.
    Safana - Fine.
Shar-Teel - In some town (BG, Beregost, Nashkel), proclaiming the inferiority of the male gender to any who will listen.
    Skie - Fine.
    Tiax - FAI.
Viconia - It might make more sense if she was escaping from FFHQ, but that would make some things considerably harder. I guess she's fine wherever.
Xan - Fine; could replace Yeslick, but what would be the point?
    Yeslick - Fine.

    @Silver Knight:
We seem to have much the same ideas, though I'm not sure I agree with your placement of Eldoth and I think Tiax ought to be more accessible. Maybe you could even find him and Quayle picking a fight with each other in FAI.

Speaking of picking fights, perhaps Shar-Teel could show up in Nashkel and be badgering Edwin to fight her. And whatever Minsc's status is (fighting this, fighting that, not fighting, whatever) he ought to be near the Fortress.

It'd be a nice option to move Branwen to the basilisk area, but they made up a good enough cover story for the carnival that it's not really necessary. Perhaps an optional component.

Having Yeslick escape the mines to show up at FAI in Chapter 4 begging for help is a brilliant idea, but I'm not sure how the timing for taking down the mines would work, and it'd require new dialogue. Might be worth it, though.

Of course if you move any NPCs the story of any of them would change and I would be perfectly fine with that.

One person I think that is way over powered is Kivan if you get him early enough in the game. Shar-Teel should come around once a male warrior in your group reachs level 3+.

    Here's one:

Tiax - Spellhold Asylum  He doesn't belong anywhere else, heh.

    Edited to add the following:

And I agree with most of what Fel had there, except I don't mind Minsc being in Nashkel. I mean, they guy got his head banged up (by gnolls), but he's not going to go charging off on his own. He'll stick to a populated place until he can find some help, THEN go charging off after her. But I always thought it was a bit odd that he'd not say anything should I let him join, then pick up Edwin, promising to kill Dynaheir, hehe.

I think that both Ajantis and Viconia are fine where they are - neither map is tied to a particular chapter like Cloakwood, so there's no need to go shifting them around. As long as you don't go charging too far into Ajantis's map you're not gonna get wasted by Ankhegs.

Shar-Teel, whilst in a random place, is accessable at any time. Alora and Tiax definitely need moving, though - there's no way anyone's going to want a thief they haven't built up unless (like Safana) you know they've been putting points in the most useful skills. Tiax would be a good addition to the party, then. There's no way to make his Summon Ghast ability tie to his level, is there? That would avoid some of the balance issues. Having it tied to Chapter (like the PC's special abilities) would also acheive the desired effect.

Coran would make sense in Beregost (it is Governor Keldath offering the bounty, after all) but quest issues arise.

Xan's not too out of the way, but you could put him at the mine entrance. Rather than being captured he could be complaining that some kobolds stole his moonblade and it's pointless going on without it!
