    Agree with:

    Street Fighter II
    Super Mario Brothers
    Wolfestein 3D

Civ III cheats so much, I didn't think I'd see a nomination for it. Still, I haven't played it far enough for me to give an opinion I guess.

Agree with / Nominate these since you didn't like of the bundle.

Super Mario Bros - NES -Platformer
    Pro: Classic. Nostalgia.
Con: Maybe too hard for newbies. :p
It's the game that started it all. ;)

Super Mario Bros 2 - NES -Platformer
Otherwise like the first part, but this time Bowser was replaced with Wart and the game-mechanics with different ones.

Super Mario Bros 3 - NES -Platformer
After #2, returns more to the roots of the classic SMB, but with about 100 levels, items, and lot of other, new tricks.

Super Mario World 1 - SNES -Platformer
First Mario on SNES and introduces Yoshi, among with some really fresh ideas (at that time). Still very playable and challenging.

Super Mario World 2 - SNES -Platformer
Gives more emphasize to Yoshi, who has to keep baby-Mario safe from the young Bowser and save baby-Luigi while at it. :D

    Super Metroid - SNES -Platformer
Pro: Dark, mature athmosphere. Challenging but also rewarding.
Con: Being stuck isn't any fun.
The third Metroid game and the first one on SNES. Find items, defeat bosses, solve puzzles... the regular stuff with a whole new concept.

    Megaman 1 - NES -Platformer
The blue man with a pistol as his right hand. Save the world from Willy and his robots.

    Megaman 2 - NES -Platformer
More of the same, but most think that #2 was the best of the serie. This time there are 8 robots and Willy has a new castle. (OCRemix has, btw, some great remixes of the original musics.)

    Megaman 3 - NES -Platformer
Basically #2 with new graphics and bosses, but if something works, why not use it? Wait, they did introduce Rush, didn't they? The robotic doggy?

    Megaman 4 - NES -Platformer
The last one of the "good" Megaman games on NES, still going in the familiar line.

    Megaman X - SNES -Platformer
Pro: Pinnacle of the serie with some unique ideas.
Con: A bit too short by today's standards.
Happens some 30 silly years after the original Megaman serie. The protagonist changes to 'X', robots to Maverics, and introduces Zero -X's buddy. First one on SNES and packed quite good graphics back then. Also, this is where the serie practically ended, the later sequels being utter trash.

Tecmo World Cup - NES -Sports
    Pro: Requires some strategy.
    Con: Too simple graphics...?
Basically you control the sportsmen like you would control characters, where they are running towards "you" (the enemy goal). You have chances to do different "moves", like pass, kick, volley ball, guard, etc, when you have the ball or meet the one who has it. Difficult to explain, it's so different game.

    Punchout - NES -Sports
    Pro: Creative.
Con: Later bouts require miracle reflexes.
Little Mac trying to find his way to the final match, against Mike Tyson. Shame that the fellow got sentenced to jail just before the publicization of the game, and they had to change the name from "Mikey Tyson Boxing" to this one. :D

    Super Punchout - SNES -Sports
More of the same, but with updated graphics, new protagonist, and new enemies.

Final Fantasy 6 - SNES -RPG
    Pro: Lots to do.
    Con: Lots of spam-battles.
Locke, Celes, Terra, and their buddies trying to solve the problem of "magic" and survive from the emperors plans.

Final Fantasy 7 - SNES -RPG
Cloud, Tifa, Aeris, and their buddies doing practically the same as the protagonists of FF6.

    Pocky & Rocky 1 - SNES -Adventure
    Pro: Creative. Unique style.
Con: Requires crazy strategy and luck.
Difficult to explain, again, but a review can be found from HERE.

    Pocky & Rocky 2 - SNES -Adventure
Tales of Phantasia - SNES -RPG
    Pro: Creative and timeless graphics.
Con: Battle-system a bit difficult at times.

Secret of Mana - SNES -RPG
    Pro: Nice story and RPG-elements.
Con: The battle-system can get ugly at times if you get stuck. Average characters.

    Chrono Trigger - SNES -RPG
Pro: The overall works very well.
    Con: Some meaningless battles.

Breath of Fire 2 - SNES -RPG
    Pro: Character concepts.
    Con: Too difficult. No story.

Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo - SNES
Pro: Has all the features previous SF2 versions had, and some more.
Con: Nothing new, really, from the previous.

The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past - SNES -Adventure
Pro: Lots to do, rewarding, and creative.
Con: Maybe a bit too easy. Just a little.

    Super Mario 64 - N64 -Platformer/Adventure
    Pro: 3D works.
Con: Graphics were quite ugly even then.

    Pilotwings 64 - N64 -Sports
    Pro: Freedom.
    Con: At times strange controls.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - N64 -Adventure
    Conker's Bad Fur day - N64 -Adventure
    Pro: Humour.
Con: Cannot be both FPS and adventure game; spoils the end.

    Disagree with:

    Civilization 3 - PC
Nice mechanics, but computer simply cheats too much for it to be any fun.

BG2: Throne of Bhaal - PC
Identical to SoA, but it being an expansion it lacks in story and new elements. It is almost completely just hack'n'slash too.

    Grim Fandango - PC
I have heard that this one is supposed to be rather good, but to me it seemed way too slow-paced and obscene. Didn't like of the athmosphere either.

Icewind Dale and sequels - PC
    Hack'n'slash. Pure and simple.

    Tomb Rider - PC/PSX
Never liked, never will. The camera almost made me insane.

You brought this on yourself.

Would you like me to expand my earlier post with longer reasons?

Anyway, one since mentioned I'd like to disagree with is Icewind Dale II. I'm a fan of the original, it is highly entertaining game, not quite good enough to give a positive recommendation for this though. Light in plot it may be, but a very good hack and slash. The sequel however I found pretty tedious, seemed unable to let me get on and have a good time, seemed to be trying to be clever at times and falling over, and I'm not impressed by the 3rd edition rules. Those used by the first are by no means perfect, but these are a giant step backwards.

Nominate: Civilization III Turn based strategy
Pros: Awesome replayability, nice use of new non-violent ways of winning (like diplomacy and culture), love the animation on the Japanese Samurai
Cons: AI seems to have been dumbed down since Civ II, thus necessitating cheating on behalf of the computer (e.g. they always know exactly which of your cities is lightly defended).

Disagree: Tomb Raider- Aside from the crappy action segments, the camera angles and sheer crappiness compared to previous shooters I have played just plain aggravated me.

Agree: Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri - also had a pretty cool "storyline" relating to the planet itself that unfolded as the game progressed.

Actually, the knowledge of your un-defended city is one of the few consistent AI cheats. The difficulty in the Civ games have always been regulated by how much the AI cheats and how much free stuff it gets. If you want an uncheated game play regent but any half decent player annihilate the AI then and that is no fun. Sure it would be wonderful if the AI could get smarter on the higher difficulties but that seems to be beyond the current technology. Also, the AI in Civ3 is much smarter than in Civ2. Just the fact that the AI in 3 can coordinate massive attacks and not the stray unit the AI in civ2 sent against you makes the civ3 AI vastly superiour to the civ2 one.

If a game shouldnt be nominated because the AI cheats I think you would have to remove pretty much all the games that have been nominated.

Good point joacqin. Think of all the RPGs where a certain boss has been made invinciable for the point of story.

I really enjoyed Civilization III and the many improvements over Civilization II such as: strategic resources; unique units; civilization advantages; the nice graphics upgrade :) It gets my nomination.

I don't really want to go back and see who agreed or disagreed with Civ III so if you do please state so AGAIN after my post? Thank you.

Nah, that's YOUR job. I have said my piece already and will not bugger to do any more work for it. Seriously, a *review* for EVERY one of those games? Do you think I work at that industry for free?

Edited it to tell out the genres, sure, although I'm not sure if they are correct. (Although I'm pretty certain that you will ignore it in any case, you lazy bum.)

Against: Doom 3, good graphics, but the gameplay is awful, flashlight system sucks, and the whole formula of the game gets boring way sooner than the game ends.

    Nominate( Malovae's post reminded me)

X-Com-UFO Defense(PC-TBS)-Arguably the best tactical strategy game (Jagged Alliance 2 is close) ever, X-Com has an incredible amount of detail in
a deceptively simple engine. From alien dissections to awesome turn-based battles, this game really stands out in my eyes. I should re-install it sometime....

    I've but one, for now.
    ---

Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire (N64 / PC) - FPS

It was that opening level, flying the speeder and using tow cables to drop the AT-AT walkers that got everyone's attention. From what I've heard, kids were lined up all day to play it at the stores. Most people (myself included) also enjoyed the swoop level, having to hunt down the other bikers and cram them into the largest wall you could manage. The story wasn't terrible, and in comparision to the Jedi Knight series, was very decent. Cutscenes were well done, and the ending was satisfying.

I'm not asking for a 5 page essay! I'm asking for a short list of the pros and cons of a game. If you nominate a game you OBVIOUSLY know what at least the pros are. I haven't played every game so I can't give a reliable review for every game I haven't played. Also giving a small review proves that you actually have played the game.
What ones aren't you sure about? If you aren't sure then you probably haven't even played the game - especially if you can't even remember what genre it was. I won't ignore it if you simply obey the rather easy rules to follow. Lazy? Gods, man, have you SEEN the list? Takes a fair amount of work reading everything, taking it down, summarising the reviews into points. I enjoy doing this but the least thing you could do is just provide a tiny bit more information than just a name for nominations. However if you're just agreeing with a nomination you don't have to provide a review, unless you think there is something that somebody missed. I'm certain nobody wants a list of games that are based on hype alone and not actual game experience.
Any help would be welcome :)

    Agree: X-Com: UFO Defence
Disagree: X-Com III: Enemy Unknown - Was good but the novelty had worn off from the first in the series. The gameplay was identical.

    Doom III

I think it was just sold on the name of the third game. I honestly don't know why I nominated it, because I didn't like it.

I think I was thinking of another game oddly enough. Was there a Doom after Doom II but before Doom III?

    -Edit-

Sorry, I was thinking of Ultimate Doom, but that wasn't distinct enough to earn it's own spot. But I really didn't mean to nominate Doom III.

Good luck to Abomination for organizing this. And sorry if any of this is formatted against your liking.

Agree: (Note, even though I put a con comment or fence "on the fence" comment, I'm still supporting the game)

    Baldur's Gate II
    Chrono Trigger - pro: music
    Commander Keen
Doom - fence: way better than its original competitor at the time: Wolfenstein
Final Fantasy III/VI - pro: music
    Final Fantasy VII
Indiana Jones and Fate of Atlantis - pro: 3 independent solutions to the same game unlike similarly-styled games like Monkey Island.
Lost Vikings - pro: action puzzle games are rare.
Raptor - pro: good graphics at the time, sweet arsenal of weaponry. CON: not replayable for long.
Secret of Mana - pro: multi player RPG on a console is rare.
Sims 2 - pro: sadistically funny
    Street Fighter II
Super Mario Brothers Series - characters still popular today; withstanding the test of time
    Ultima VII
Warcraft II - fence: there was a story?
Warcraft III - pro: custom maps and scripts (there are some neat maps out there...)
Zelda Link to the Past - pro: music, story
Zelda Ocarina in Time - con: same story as Link to the Past.

    Disagree:
Pocky and Rocky - con: too hard (for the second game in the series at least). In one player mode, I can barely manage to beat the first level.

    Neutral comments:
Secret of Mana II - game was sooo long. It seems replayable because of different classes and combination, but the length of the game discouraged that.

    Nominations:
Lemmings (PC Puzzle)- I think I'm only nominating the original Lemmings I and Lemmings II The Tribes. Pro: cute puzzle game, very challenging. Con: ending sucks every time. The later games in the series are easier and shorter. (Lemmings I and II had 120 levels, Lemmings III had 90 and was easier  )

Monkey Island II (PC Adventure)- Pro: humour (as always), longer game than its sequels

Super Smash Brothers (N64 action) - I think I'm nominated the series here (ie: including SSB Melee) because the style is similar. Pro: good party game, multiplayer, cute, popular characters. Con: One player action is a bit limited or gets repetitive, need friends to get those extra controllers!

Ultima Underworld II (PC RPG)- Pro: story, first-person action RPG, graphics. Con: no party.
