Actually dying can be useful in that it opens different dialogue options particularly with Morte in the beginning. The first time I played this I didn't know such things as walkthru's existed and so died a lot which I quickly realised helped more often than hindered. Go kuemper I think you'll love it once you're in the swing.

I found this note in a zombie (ick). I've tried folding it several ways. What does it do, other than add to my origami stat? :p

How does leveling up work? Do I just do it on my own or do I need to talk to someone for training?

How much do you really want to be spoiled here? Part of the amazing vista of this game is the close interaction with everything from zombies on up and your own blundering through until you begin to get a glimmer of what's happening. Trust me, you don't want ANY answers at all the first time through.

However, if you really want answers to specific questions, I imagine that there are any number of us who can give you responses in short order.

Please just think twice before you do it.

YOU did say no spoilers. Add it to your origami collection for now and try again later (the solution is in several walkthroughs).

The level up thing -- I don't consider that a spoiler. The answer is both. You do part of the level up on your own. You need training for some things.

Yeah; you level up and gain THAC0, hit points, saving throws and such as per usual, but you will need training from an NPC to spend your 'unused proficiency points' on whatever weapon class you wish. And you can't 'dual-class' (it's... not actually dual-classing, or anything like it) without learning the appropriate profession from an NPC.

As for the note - it's a puzzle, and everything you need to work it out is written on the note itself. Read the description, then try folding it again.

dmc, I've been trapped in the effing Mortuary for *3* game days!!! I'm sick of being trapped in, what people here consider, the best RPG ever! It's gone past 'fun' to being 'let me break the CD in many pieces'.

This bloody note is the last straw. Sorry I asked what that piece of paper was for. Just close this thread, okay?

Easy, kuemper. The trouble with walkthroughs is that there are alternate ways of doing things in this game. I'm not sure there is any right/wrong way to play the game.

To get through the Mortuary you need to be organized. Go carefull through each room checking for what you can find. Certain zombies will be described with something different. Zombie has 2 numbers? Make a note of that. That stupid piece of paper...I spent forever real time trying to fold it gave up and read whosis's walkthrough for the directions. Simpson?

Note: when you find junk, rags pick up some of them. You'll need it. I gave it to Morte to carry.

The note: the order of folding the corners comes from the number of the zombie you got it from. Compare it to the markings on each corner.

Getting out: many ways. Talk to the rightmost zombie on the 2nd floor. Or Soego on the first floor.

Tell me about it, I almost kill my dog...
As for puzzles: when the 'thinking' desn't work, I use the 'quick save - take note' method, and is just that, quick save, take note, if wrong, load again; it doesn't take too long; oh, when first attempt, save on separate file, so after solving the puzzle I read every option.
Is a game for patient people: I just found a guy in the flaming guy that knows about portals; you can be half an hour talking to him just trying to figure out what the heck is all about, and is not a puzzle, and I don't even know if knowing all that planes things will be useful...

Candrian? No, you don't need to know everything he says, it's just background information on the Planescape setting for people who know nothing about it and/or have time, patience and interest enough to read through it. You might want to at least ask him about the negative energy plane and negation, though.

If you want spoilers, read through the Mortuary section of Dan Simpson's walkthrough -- he lists several ways to get out and what is important to do before you leave.

The Mortuary was the most frustrating part for me, too.
