Are those good games? I'm particularly interested in roleplaying aspects with the first one and strategic realism in the second one, but everything goes. Some opinions, please?

"Total Annihilation: Kingdoms" is good RTS of the classic RTS school of "Age of empires". There are four sides Aramon (like medieval europeans), Veruna (the marine nation), Zhon (Primitives) and the bad guys (I can't remember their name-black magic, undead etc.) Each side has different units, strengths and weaknesses and therefore you must use a different approach for each one of them. For example Aramon is unstoppable in ground battles (knights, cannons etc) while the strong point of Zhon is its airforce (small dragons, gargoyles etc.) The thing that makes this game unique is that you play with a different side in each chapter. For example when in one chapter you play as Veruna and you are leading a verunian invasion force to Zhon islands, in the next chapter you play as Zhon and you are trying to throw Verunians back to the sea. It's like reading a book. Also, if you buy it, don't forget to download an official add-on (iirc it is called crusaders) which adds new units to the game.

I agree with Morsmordre here. Total Annihilation is way better than Kingdoms. Plus, I hear there's a truly impressive AI mod for TA, should you require that much of a challenge.

I loved Total Annihilation, but Kingdoms was really not my choice. But for both games you have plenty of extra units and maps to download, official and non official. Both are relatively easy to make. And as for AI, well it is not that great, but will be a challenge if given a chance and he will never "give up", like some AIs in other RTS I have played (but that is more because of game rules and abilites...) So, if you dont watch at comp players they will grow so powerfull and eventualy they will kill you...

Do not be mistaken by my poor knowledge of english language, i still love TA :)

Total Annihilation is my favorite RTS ever. I didn't even buy Kingdoms after playing the demo. It was just bad. :o

For TA, there are tons of mods, units, maps, AIs, etc for download if you look around. The game is still strongly supported by the community, ever after its developer (cavedog) went kaput about around 2000/2001.

I think I remember playing Siege of Avalon, and that I enjoyed it. The only problem that time was that it only came out with 2 chapters (which were actually smaller than a BG2 chapter). And the company sort of release a new chapter in 2-3 months. So I was actually like playing a demo game that consist only of the intro. Unless you can get the whole game, I would actually not recommend it.

That is no longer a problem as they released "Siege of Avalon: Anthology" e.g. on GOG which contains all chapters.

Holy resurrection Batman! 18 years buried and moldering in its tomb, only to be reawakened from the dead for a response to a poster who apparently has not posted in 11 years. This might be a record . . .
