The mood for Bollywood movies has struck me again. Watching a Bollywood trilogy takes all bloody day. It's worse than a Lord of the Rings marathon!

I also ran out of junk food, which has made me particularly cranky...

    Liberation Day!

Celebrating it in changing, windy weather with okay beer, bad burgers, mediocre rock bands and great fun.

Made possible by Canadian, Polish, American, British and some French veterans, 70 years ago. Thanks again!

That's actually quite funny, but then again "liberation day" is a pretty generic holiday name. :shake:

The official end of the only war in the Netherlands that we get taught about. AKA WW2.

You name any other conflict in the world and it gets neglected in our educational system. All government employees and subsided jobs get a day off. The rest gets to work while the media pounds us for days with the importance of the event.

WW1? Nothing, our own dirty war in Indonesia? Nothing. Vietnam, Korea, red Khmer, war 1870, American civil war, crusades? Nothing. A flash of napoleon, a few wandering Greeks/Romans and that is our complete history education.

Heh! That's true, sadly. There was quite a bit in the history lessons on the Eighty Years' War, though, and some naval battles of people like Michiel de Ruyter in the years that followed (like Raid on the Medway). But other than that? Nope...

Like it is different in any other country. Also, I seem to recall quite a few of these things from history class, including the eighty year war. And I wasn't even paying attention in history class.

That's odd, we learned about loads of wars in Slovenian schools, both local and global, back in the day (not sure about the current curriculum). I attended a trade school after elementary (which was 8 years at the time) and I still had all sorts of historical nonsense shoved down my throat for the first two years.

Just casually watched the Russian military parade. Including their new heavy battle tank t 14 Armata. Even the tires of the trucks were polished.

Tsar Putin and some senior citizens(dressed with lots of metal) watched it. No nannies were needed to keep the old geezers awake, and free wodka is served after the event.

A 55 ton main battle tank to fight on the European plains? Or in a few selected sandboxes? Who knows, but they are going to make a lot of them. keeping them in working order is of later concern.

At least it will keep a lot of people off the street or do they build them in low wages countries?

Sometimes I wonder at how long some things will last. I am cleaning out a lot of not quite junk from the house and could not resist hooking up a computer put together out of spare parts in 2005. The thing booted up and ran!
I found some of my grandkids drawings and things they had written the most heart warming was my daughters youngest making a wish to stay here "tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow" She could only have been about 6 or so when she was staying with Mom and me. Love that almost grown brat!
I also found a sealed unopened container of Folgers that Mom must have put away when she could still drive to town, glad to see it as I had just run out and could not get more for about a week and a half. Must have been there for more than a year, maybe two but tastes just fine to a desperate coffee drinker.

Nah, double-posting is just within the same day and such posts are automatically merged now anyway. After 24 hours go by, it's not considered double posting any more.

    Got it Tal :D

    ---------- Added 9 hours, 35 minutes and 52 seconds later... ----------

Well, as the only one here I can talk all I want! Found out something interesting thanks to a bonehead move on my part. I had used up almost 90% of my data allotment and cut back by 1/3 before the cost of upping it kicked in. Naturally that put me over my prime time limit and I was supposed to slow down to dial up speeds. Without thinking I started streaming a movie and after a while I realized I should not be able to do that. Testing my connection speed I found out I was getting 420 kb a second! DSL speed. Nice!

I figured out why I couldn't access a lot of sites. I have had this problem before. It occurs when my access is slowed. I have no idea why and that is when the problem appears. It's back so I'll sign out, thanks be I reset my allotment on the 2nd. Hi and bye for now all.

Didn't sleep tonight. At all. Apparently, I turn into some sort of misanthrope when I don't get any sleep. I was ranting about how vile some moneygrubbers can be when making commercials or adds as they were using the 2000+ deaths in India (due to the heat) as a springboard to sell their thermal insulation system.
Someone pointed out that they may have an actual point and that our misuse of energy is causing some bad happenings around the world. Usually I'm not too quick to point a finger or think bad about someone, or so I think.
Still, using the deaths of hundreds in an add is kinda stupid or bad PR to say the least.
Whatever it is... I need sleep.

That are cool things to find on a PC, OldOne! I hope you find more in the mean time. :)

I turn into a misanthrope every time I open my eyes. It's easy to hate people: All you have to do is look around.

    @Master of Nuhn
It is and I found a working Compaq mini, the shrunk down desktop from who knows when. I remember mom bringing it home and being so surprised at what all was crammed inside. I did not remember putting IWD on it or the cga kids games. Ryann was a killer at hearts it seems. Think I'll call her and tell her I beat all her low score records. It would drive her nuts. :-)

Hate is such a strong emotion. It's tiring. I prefer apathy or cynicism. Much less tiring.
