[IMG] Hey, I was wondering if anyone could help with a problem I've been having. A friend and I recently decided to try IWD2 on multiplayer using a crossover cable.Does anyone know if this works? And if it does why isn't ours working?

Now we both have WinXP and neither of us have any mods or anything like that. We've tried both IPX and TCP/IP settings (mainly because we don't really know which one we should be using...) and we don't really want to connect over the internet because of lag. It's frustrating the hell outta me!

Can you ping or otherwise see each other's computers when they're connected via the crossover cable? If you can't, shut down both computers' firewalls and try again. If you can see each other now, try connecting in the game.

Well we were definitely connected because we were playing Swat 4 right before/after trying. Also we were able to share files, so I assumed we were connected anyway. And we've both tried turning our Firewalls off and trying to get each other's IP addresses to join a game.

I'm still not sure what the problem is. Would it have something to do our settings? I get the feeling that there's just oooone little thing in the way... D=<

Make sure you both have the same game version. In other words, both games have to be patched with the same patches/updates.

Secondly, you're not using the same CD key are you? Because that won't work either...
Also, the CD keys you can find on the net are being recognised by the latest patches, and again they won't allow you to connect to each other...

Sorry I haven't replied. We could only try connecting the game again recently.

We're not using any patches or updates at all. We both have 2.01.

As for the CD key, I'm not quite sure what that is... I'm not that great with computers so all this TCP/IP and IPX stuff is sorta passing me by... I did read something about setting up IPX protocols in both LAN connections in the computer but that didn't work.

When he sets up an IPX game I can see it listed there, but it fails to join, while he can't seem to see any games I set up.

In my personal experiences, I've never been able to get any of the IE engined games to work properly to play online or over LAN through only the in game screens. The only times I've ever achieved success was by using GameSpy Arcade to connect to the host. Annoying, I know.

    IWD2 requires a CD key? I don't remember that...

Please, apologize me for my necromance, but what I'm gonna say could be very interesting.

A few weeks ago, a friend and I had the same problem, we couldn't play online this game, but today, after installing an update of IWD2, we did! Yes, the number of version is 2.01, the same as the game first install, but if you see well, the number of build is different. And yes, the patch notes don't say anything about multiplayer, but really works like silk. Here is a link to the patch in softpedia:

    http://games.softpedia.com/get/Patch/Icewind-Dale-II-Patch.shtml

    I hope this help

For crossover cable, you'll want to be using the TCP/IP setting. You'll also want to make sure you network adapter is enabled. You'll also want to turn OFF DHCP IP addressing and give yourself a static IP address for both computers. Make them both different. Then you should be able to connect via the crossover cable.

Just make sure you are using a crossover cable, as a regular network cable won't work.

Ok, sorry for my link, I didn't know that. The only thing I wanted to say is that if you install the patch, you shouldn't have any problems.

And no, there is no CD-Key for IWD2.

IWD was my favorite game like 10 years ago.
