Is there any place in particular I should look for a Scroll of Cloudkill? I'm preparing to embark for the Fortress of Regrets, and I have been advised that having lots of Cloudkill spells would be a good idea.

Vrishika in the Curiosity Shoppe sells one.

You can also use the Abyssal Pipes you find in the Drowned Nations and the empty tomb from a Quick Item slot. Or the Stinky Chocolate that you can buy from Quell in the Private Sensorium.

Um...OK. Is the spell supposed to actually do anything? Every time I get swarmed by True Shadows and cast it...nothing happens. Then I die.

If you get the spell off, the game should pause while several clouds pass over the screen. Then all the shadows within range should die. (Try casting the spell with no enemies in sight.)

If the shadows hit you before you get the spell off, they will disrupt your spellcasting. After that, a single mage is no match for a bunch of true shadows. So you should start casting before they get too close.

Just as an aside, Cloudkill working on those shadows is definitely a bug. All of the shadows are set to level 1, which is ludicrous for creatures with as many hit points as they do. This is a common bug in the game, actually. Many many creatures didn't have their level updated to match the rest of their stats, so cloudkill works way more effectively than it is supposed to.

This will be fixed in the next version of my Fixpack.

You can also learn Cloudkill from the Grimoire of Pestilential Thought after making some weighty sacrifices, dear friend. Choose well.

Not true, unless you're talking about some mod. The spells you can learn from the Grimoire are Blindness, Adder's Kiss and Power Word: Kill.

I'm inclined to agree with Quinn about the bug thing. I've always found it strange that Cloudkill kills the True Shadows - it also makes the Fortress disappointingly easy. Personally, I usually teach Cloudkill to Ignus rather than Nameless One for this very reason. If I'm playing a game where I can get two Cloudkills, I teach the second one to Nameless One but I don't memorize any for the Fortress.
