While colloquially browsing files and tutorials on modding I came across information on seamlessly spawning PCs, similar in a fashion that BG/2 spawns them so that when you pick up a PC they are a similar level to your character. However, part of me feels it's a little... odd.

Most NPCs when you encounter them have been stood around in a bar or trapped in a dungeon just chilling when you encounter them, I know convenience is a part of this as having an NPC in your party too low or high a level can be a drain on experience and takes a while to even out depending on the level disparity.

Yet would it be such a hinderance if a character maintained a more static outlook on life? If they spawned at a certain level and by golly they would remain in such a way as until they travelled with you? Would it make more sense if they periodically wandered off and weren't at the location they were meant to be and arrived back at their waiting spots with an extra level and perhaps some goodies?

It is possible, currently, to play through a game and pick up an NPC, then if for some unknown reason you had to reload and you went to pick them up again without meandering through quests that they are a lower level when the time between getting them between the two attempts in the game is a couple of (IG) hours. It is vaguely reminiscent of a joke in Order of the Stick where Crystal, Haleys' nemesis is playing cards with friends and levels up spontaneously because Haley did elsewhere in the world. It's an aspect that bugs me the more I think about it.

Perhaps I shall have to consider some alternatives to level appropriate spawning based on time, or simply have NPCs that remain a consistant level or are affected depending on what chapter you are in when you meet them.
