    Old games.
Aladdin (by Disney): managed to finish it only with cheats.
Terminator: I always died while escaping with motorbike.

It seems most of these hard games are old games doesn't it?

I just thought of another: the original Lemmings. Mayhem was, well, just mayhem.

I remember there's this one mayhem level where you had to get some guys to climb up a wall, and explode them partway to clear a path to the goal. Then you have to build a path up there (yes, high enough that they die if they fall)... no blockers given. I had to time the bombing of the wall using the music. And also to bomb my own bridge to prevent the crowd from falling to their doom. It still took dozens of retries to get it right.

Oh yes, the Lemmings... Such a cute game it was! And so many years have elapsed since I was playing that in my old Pentium 75... Good old times...

I agree that Ocarina of Time was hard, but only in terms of puzzles. At times it just got frustrating (ironically, I found the last three dungeons to be the easiest; Forest Temple and Jabu-Jabu's belly were confusing).

Jubu-Jabu's belly, the first time, was really screwy. Who would have thought to put a box on that switch?

I would also like to add Toy Story for gameboy, though I think I can get past the parts which I considered hard.

    BG2 :shake:

The hardest game, for me, was Arcanum, especially since it wouldn't let me out of the starting area, even after I explored that area for about 10 hours, going to edge of the map in every direction.

Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix was difficult as well, I thought, but I'm not very good against the computer in First-person shooters.

[IMG] Have you noticed that old games were really difficult? Where you had to think a lot to solve puzzles or just to stay out of the line of fire. Now, games aren't difficult, they are insane or imposible, I'm talking about arcade games, those you pay a coin to play, like those shoot'em up or fight games, now, all that they care (the people who make them) is just that you put another coin to continue playing. Remember 1942?, Moon Patrol? Mr Do? Double Dragon? Street Fighter? and so many more? The secuel of this games or the imitations are insane, 1000 ships firing 1000 times at the same time, motherships that fix almost in the entire screen that ALWAYS kills you taking you out whatever bigger guns you have collected before, and so...
Just few new games are playable now, but forget about think some strategic moves anymore, now is a matter of luck or just put another coin to continue...
Talking about hard... NfS Underground... this game doesn't care how well you drive, you just have to have some luck and pray that your competiton crash in a 90ยช turn, by the way, you never brake enough to turn barely good, and if you turn you get cruch by a car that take the turn at 200 km/h without brake... Whatever, sorry if I got out of line here.

    All of the original RPGs.

Like in Breath of Fire I remember at one point I couldn't get past a certain level just because I forgot to grab an item in some obscure place six levels ago. Come on.

[rant]I agree with you; the new arcade games are near impossible to play and they all cost 3-4 tokens each. They are so frustrating  :flaming: Why wont you just die? :bang: [/rant]

The most of the old games were very hard but there always was a trick, an idea (not only in case of adventures) which brought closer to the solution. This guaranteed that the games were long. This was needed because few games were released that time, and creating a game have always taken a long time.

I played an old adventure game called "Uninvited" in the early 90s. It was impossible to finish because I clearly didn't know the 'trick' required to move to the next level. The main problem is that there was no Sorcerer's Place in those days to come and look for answers.

Although I just did a search and someone has actually posted a solution to Uninvited! So if only I could find that old game again I would now be able to beat it.

Also, I agree that some of those modern arcade games are impossible - especially the ones with more than two buttons (e.g. any fighting game). Bring back Pacman! That had NO buttons.

The hardest game, actually it was also the most tedious PC game I've ever played in my life. It's an old puzzle game called Klotzki (sp?). There are several puzzles, but I remember only two. The hardest one took me about 3 or more hrs to finished (in one sitting, no save), and it was extremely satisfying (if you know the game). The second puzzle, a medium size one, and the only one that I was not able to complete. I actually gave up thinking that there was no solution. It was aptly titled "Forget Me Not".

Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor. Why? Becuase you couldn't finish it without the patch! Not to mention fighting lizardmen after lizardmen then some orcs, then more lizardmen, then orcs AND lizardmen...

I assumed that the reason my brothers and I did so terribly at NES games when the NES was current was because we were young. After playing some of them again recently, I've discovered that the truth of the matter is that NES games are all fiendishly hard.

Take the average Mega Man game, for instance. Mega Man 2 was a cakewalk. Mega Man 3 had some hard bosses, but was overall simple. (Ironically, the easiest one to beat was named Hard Man) but, say, Mega Man 5, now that was simply impossible. Oy.

Recently, I've found a 3D platform game (the name currently escapes me) that's frustratingly difficult, mostly because it has the WORST CAMERA EVER. You'll be in the middle of a generic moving-platforms-over-a-bottomless-pit puzzle, and just as you jump from one platform to the next, the camera decides it wants to rotate 45 degrees to the left. AAARRGHHH!

For me it would have had to be Theme Park on Playstation. On the computer version I never had trouble turning a profit but couldn't even get my first park to turn a profit on PSOne.

A lot of the old NES games got absurdly difficult as the game progressed, and yes I remember cursing bitterly at the later stages of Ninja Gaiden, but the one that stands out in my mind has to be Battle Toads. The first two and a half boards were fun and quite easily beatable but after that it started getting more and more difficult to the point of lunacy.

I could never get beyong about the 3/4 way point. I tried using a game genie and even that wasn't enough to let me beat the game. Sure there were other games that I couldn't beat unassisted but I was always able to beat them using the game genie.

Yeah breath of fire was a pain. One new game that has me stumped is Golden Sun for GBA, damn tree. Most old games if find tend to be more difficult. Newer games seem to rely on graphics more than gameplay and replay ability. Although games like GTA are the exception. Games like Prince of Persia 3 while being fun while they lastare over too quickly with no incentive to play again.

    Syndicate Wars.

I could not finish the game without cheating no matter how many times I tried.
