I can understand that being French and living in England must be awkward. That being said, the largest French community outside France is in London.

I had a fantastic time living in Scotland though. Of course Scots are not prejudiced against the French, in fact they are very friendly: Vive l'Ecosse!

    @8people: "chou fleur" actually. ;)

When I see candles and decorations I feel like setting something on fire. :flaming:

Well, in my experience, the slightest hint of a French accent doesn't get you much love in England...

[IMG] Depends where you go, most places you'll probably get a joke or two, while others are rather more xenophobic unfortunately.

Then again even our englishy englishy comedians are based on self satire of england. It seems to be one of the things that makes us less popular, we generally mock other countries as much as we mock ourselves.

Well... damn you all, I LIKE christmas decorations!! I like multicolour lights flashing when you take a walk! Waht can I say, I'm a rebel (without a cause)...

The hell are you talking about? Condiments MAKE the burger! I put swiss cheese, ketchup, mustard, relish, onions (they're a must!!!) and when I feel like it, I add pickles and red peppers... oh no, all this talking about burgers gave me a craving!! And I would have to walk to the store to buy some because I ran out of patties last week... NOOOOOOOOO!

As for the french thing, of course you're embarassed if your french! Who wouldn't be? In one of the two World wars, they attacked german tanks on horses. Who does that?? (yeah, the polish, but at least they had the guts to fight to the end....)

Mouahaha, I'm kidding. As a happily french speaking person, I feel a certain kinship with the french....sometimes....

Wasn't it you who said something to the effect of "I'm proud to be French-Canadian, it's better than being French-French"?

That said, having met both kinds, they're both pretty nice and fun people, even if in different ways. And always remember that Paris is France to the same extent that London is Great Britain.

    (I hope Caradhras isn't from Paris :p)

Uh, probably not, I don't remember ever saying that.

But I've talked with many french (France) who live in Canada, and they all said that the Paris citizen are a-holes.... :)

Before people start thinking I dislike the french...I don't...but its my duty as an Englishman to be offensive to all, especially my fellow Englishmen and the french, that is the way of things :p Now the Spanish! Don't get me started...

I abhor Paris. I'd be happy if I could live my entire life without going back to Paris.

Most of them are smug [censored] who believe they are superior when they are really rude and pretentious and give us a bad name.

Nothing irritates me more than people who assume that Paris is all there is in France.

We have more than 300 different sorts of cheese and even more sorts of wine so you'd think that it would be enough for people to realize that our country has more to offer than the Eiffel tower and Pigalle...:mad::mad:

I'm not a fan of anything French -- but I do like jokes about them!

I just think that if you're going to be arrogant, you'd better have the recent history to back it up -- otherwise you look like you're . . . overcompensating!

Does the French Revolution count as recent history? Because that always makes me chuckle.

Last time we were in Paris, Rob nearly started an international incident! I was preegnant and we'd walked to the Eiffel tower (Wasn't too fussed about seeing it but when you're there then why not?). Anyway, I was busting for a wee as Ashley was using my bladder as a trampoline. Rob asked at the resturant at the bottom of the tower if I could use the loo and they said no. He was FURIOUS! We walked a bit further and he got madder and stopped and started shouting that the Germans had the right idea and we should have let the French be bombed. We heard a cough, looked round and realised that we were stood right outside a police station.......oops
