The fact that she doesn't concess really shows how much she's worth as a candidate.

So Obama declares victory, Clinton doesn't - yet - acknowledge defeat (because if that's a concession speech, I'm a beanstalk). What else is new?

I wouldn't make that comment anywhere near Cheney.... :)

This primary has been a very hard one to witness. For the last 16 years I have admired the Clintons, especially Bill. To see both of them sink as low as they did in all this, has been -- a painful experience. I'm hoping that once the smoke clears that they will begin to recover.

I did want to add that Obama has been just splendid during this entire ordeal: It's certainly his moment. Let the next battle commence....

Hillary's speech left me scratching my head a bit. While I don't necessarily have a problem with her saying she's going to take a couple of days to decide what to do from here (I don't think she has that many (any?) options, so I'm not sure what there is to decide), I would have prefered to hear something more unifiying from her. I don't see how that would have harmed her. She is not going to be president, and a unifying messaege might have been a nice gesture if she indeed wants to be the VP. And I think that if she wants the position, it's hers. Bill has been both an asset and a liability at times during the campaign, but he is probably correct when he says she has earned it. All Hillary has to do is say she wants it, and then if she doesn't get it, that will cause the party to fracture. Besides, Barack has run this campaign with a lot of class, and I doubt that he would publicly snub her.

Chandos, to me the election was exactly what I expected from the Clintons. There was nothing Hillary and Bill said or did I thought was out of character for them. I never voted for a republican president until Bill was in office -- he put me firmly in the republican camp.

This election has turned in to a win-win for me. Being a supporter of both Obama (I live in Illinois) and McCain (because I just like the guy) I really like how things have turned out...so long as Obama says "Thanks for the offer Hillary, but [insert random expletive here]."

While I admit I lost some respect for the Clintons, I still don't think I share your opinion, T2Bruno. Perhaps you know more than me about them - heck, I expect no less - but I don't think their campaign was all that bad.

Thinking about the excerpts from Clinton's speech that I saw, I think the underlying message was that Clinton is waiting from an offer from Obama's campaign, or has already received it and needs some time to consider it (I rather doubt she's publicly ask for it, to be honest). I seriously doubt she had not planned for this situation; it was the most likely outcome for a while now, and regardless how much time they dedicated to their campaign someone probably considered this situation. I'd expect that the two camps are now in a state of low-key communication.

Well the primaries are over so we should kill this thread pretty soon but I just want to say that I totally agree with DR on Hillary. She is not trying at all to unify the party from what I saw last night.

Obama would be a fool to put her on the ticket with him. I'd bet my left nut that he won't.

Well i'll throw my:2c: in & say that obama will pick senator jim webb of virginia as his v.p.
I feel this would be a smart move on his part as it helps him against strong points that the republicans have.

p.s. if obama picks hill he better get a food taster, she will probably poison him!

It would not only be a smart move but a very good man. Question is what good he can do as VP, and that he will be asking himself. Likely the D's are aghast at what Cheney did to inter-agency cooperation in his function as VP, and so they might restore the VP Office to what it was before Cheney came along in an effort to re-create a functional cabinet. In that case Webb would be wasted on that job. Last time I heard an interview with Webb on NPR he said no, he didn't want to be VP.
