[IMG] Yell, kick, and scream if you wish, but I am a classic RPG guy with classic tastes. My first CRPG's were Wizardry and Golden Box series games from late 80's early 90's. I've also played in most D&D worlds pnp just to get a taste for the different flavors. Maybe I've just gotten older and more cynical, but the dark, doom-looming feel of the Eberron World setting the way my groups have played it really appeals to me. I daresay I like it better than Fotgotten Realms' anything goes feel.

That said, I just got high speed connection out here in the sticks and first thing I did was downloaded a free trial of Stormreach. I thought it was going to bite. I assumed I'd create a character, play for an hour or so, and see it's flaws plainly. I couldn't have been more wrong.

The limit to classes and races disturbed me at first, until I realized how well that worked out. I didn't have to debate as long as normal about how I wanted to play the game or my character. I got into the game and immediatley loved how easy it was to adapt to the controls. Casting worked great! Fighting was a charm! I remember struggling for days to learn what to cast at what or how to fight this creature, but this game had one overwhelming feature that drew me in: Simplicity.

Hardcore D&D experience? Definitly not. It was quick to pick up, and most people playing were very willing to chat with noobs for a moment to help them out. I never needed the manual, which I always do when I play an unfamiliar game. It was probably the most fun, casual gaming experience I ever had on the computer, certainly on MMORPG's.

So if you haven't tried it out that way, I suggest giving it a whirl. It'll take a few days of your life, and you might really like it. That said, I got fired and won't be buying the game soon, but when I get steady work again, not just landscaping gigs for meal money, I'm going to seriously consider this game.

I tried it out in the trial, but was put off with how the combat works. Manually tumble and then it rolls to see if it succeeds? Manual attack and manual blocking?

I unfortunately stopped playing after the first combat training, since it simply just put me so much off - to the point it frustrated me.

Will it grow on me or should I just give up?
