Considering the cliffhanger the secret mission in Brood War leaves us with, I'm craving Starcraft 2 more than any other game right now. However, if Blizzard is going to give it the SC:Ghost treatment (in one word: vaporware), I'd rather they not announce it at all. I've also got the nagging feeling SC2 will just not be as good as we'd like it too, although Blizzard are probably the only company right now how could still get a game to actually live up to its hype.

I'm keen to get my hands on Starcraft 2, if and when it arrives.

However, I don't think Blizzard will be devoting much time to it for the foreseeable future - not with WoW being the biggest continually-developing MMORPG on the market at present, to say nothing of its ability to generate revenue.

Are either StarCraft 2 or Diablo 3 in the pipe, or is the thread just fantasy dreaminess? If so, I would be grateful for a link, so I can feel good about geeking out with everyone. :D

Like the Baldur's Gate series, I think there can be no good story for a sequel. I mean, in D2 + LoD, the Prime Evils were banished _for all eternity_. Make it a new game, I say.

If they make the game at the same speed as they patch D2, you may have D3 during the next decade.

No they're not. Blizzard hasn't even said it planned on doing either. It's all wishful thinking :)

@Ofelix: Actually the second one is much (read: MUCH) better than the first. I hated Diablo when I played it, and it took a friend of mine months (literally) to convince my to give the second one a go. And while I won't praise it for being a fantastic game (it's not), it's very entertaining, and I have to admit it is exceptionally well done.

Just the other way around for me. I thought Diablo 2 was crap (mostly because single-player sucked).

I think I have to agree with that. Single player was much better on Diablo, but multiplayer is the only reason Diablo II is good.

I thought the first Diablo was better then the second, it was much more balanced for one in terms of classes and such, and you felt a bit more free if you ask me.

Anyway, I don't think a sequel to Diablo 2 would work, unless you made it a prequel to the first, as for StarCraft, well, never played Brood Wars, so I go no idea if a second game could be done.

The Brood War ending very nicely wraps up the game's story, but hints at the possibility that something is brewing. Besides there are still a couple of unresolved loose ends. If you play the "secret mission" on the other hand, the whole thing is nothing but one huge cliffhanger (I'm not going to spoil anything by going into details). By the way if you liked Starcraft, I definitely recommend getting Brood War (which should be dirt cheap now anyway - I got the Battle Chest for $20 and that was 4 years ago)

It would be quite hard to devise a sequel to Diablo, considering LoD clearly ends with all problems resolved. If there's a Diablo 3, it will probably have nothing to do with Diablo and his brothers story wise, and in this case why call it Diablo? (aside form cashing in on a successful franchise of course)
