Who loves this game? I certainly do. You play the role of a monotoned, nano-technologically augmented anti-terrorist agent who discovers a huge government conspiracy taking place in a near apocalyptic cyber-punk future. The game combinds the FPS genre with the RPG nicely, and theres a huge emphasis placed on stealth aswell.

Wow. Someone who loved Deus Ex as much as me, is it possible? :jawdrop: That was my favorite game of all time. The story, the stealth, the action (after getting some skill in the weapon of choice), the RPG elements, everything just meshed togethor in a way which has seldom been approached, let alone equaled. And the characters, it's nice to see someone besides the stereotypical action heroes. Look, not just a government trained, nano-auged killer, but a polite one. Even the enemies were interesting, with personalities. Needless to say, I can't wait for DX2. :D

EDIT: In a similar vein, have you tried System Shock 2? It too pulled off the genre mix exceptionally well in my opinion.

I loved the game and it goes down as my favourite first person shooter. What I liked was the scope of choosing a path and dealing with enemies with aggression or mercy.

I remember playing the first three stages without fatalities. Once the plot changed, my aggression level changed.

Overall I loved the game and character development as far as skills and augmentations. A sequel is in on its way, with better graphics and more involved gameplay.

I love Deus Ex...but ever since I upgraded to Direct X 9, it won't run :( and I never managed to finish it, too!
I have System Shock 2, and it's nearly as good...but there isn't any real human interaction, and that gets kinda annoying

    Frogger, glad you liked it.

The only thing I hate is when you're sniping someone, they immediately know where the shot is comming from.

    Damn play balance.

Other than that, it's a downright excellent game.

One thing I loved about this game is there always seems to be multiple ways to approach each environment. For instance almost every building you explore has a ventilation system you can sneak around in rather than walking in the open.

The skill system was cool cause at first you suck at say the sniper rifle. The crosshair would move quite a bit because you can't steady yourself and it would also take time to aim, but when you reach master level, you're perfectly still and aiming is instant.

But the Augmentations make this game even cooler. The speed and jump aug(which I maxed out) combinded with the Dragons Tooth Sword (Effectivly a lightsaber) makes you literally a nano-tech jedi.

Before I finished the game, Jock died because I didn't discover the bomb that mechanic placed on board. I went back and killed that bastard. Poor Jock. :(

Do you guys know that if you stay in your brothers apartment and kill all the evil dudes who come rushing in instead of escaping, he will come back at the end and there is another totally new level, not very big but still cool.

What? You people ran away from the hotel when they tried to off J.C.Denton's brother? I never even thought you could do this, I always took care of them, even with the realistic / pacifistic game.

Deus Ex is really, really good. And it's not a rare thing to hear people say this, as 3 of my friends agree with me on this. Only problem with it is that there seems to be some difficulty in understanding that disabling enemies with stun batons, gases and the electric prod does NOT equal killing them. Even in the beginning I remember how Anna complimented me on the basis that I was "not afraid to kill". When in fact I had killed no-one at that point.

    Yep.

I did the same thing with tranquilizers.

(I always cheat, for those of you who are new to the boards)

But that supply guy would give me ammunition. I did the whole "kill every that moves" the first time though, and supply guy wouldn't give me any ammo.

    Said I was psycho.

So, Anna has no clue, and supply guy does. That's pretty much what I picked up out of the exchange.

That game is great, but only problem i had is that i had GeForce 256 card and the game had some weird squares in the dark parts of the screen, but my friend didnt have them on voodoo 3. IMHO that is one of the most nonlinear games i played.

I just got Deus Ex from the bargain bin for 5 bucks, thought I would give it a shot. Something is seriously wrong though, it is slow as syrup on my computer which had no problems handling Morrowind or KotOR. The menu screen is worst, the pointer moves jerkily. Also when I was fiddling with LAM's the explosion came in stages. As it is now it is too slow and jerky to play, is there some patch or something which is supposed to fix this?

It also seems to be a bit too shootery for me, oh, and I hate it when it is dark in games, nothing worse than to try to run through a wall cause you cant see anything. Why do companies insist on making dark and "moody" games? It is not any fun if you cant see anything. I always turn the gamma light on to the max but that didnt do anything in Deus Ex, even the training levels are so dark that you cant really see where you are going!

I have heard great things about this game. Deus Ex 2 looks very good too, and will be first on my shopping list after I get my new computer.

Someone had to bring this year old topic back from the dead. :o

Anyway I haven't gotten the sequel yet. Only played the demo. A lot of the changes seem to have alienated me from the frachise. I'll probably pick it up after its patched up.

I have played Deus Ex 2 and at first is seems to be really cool, but then you see the menus and the fact that the game has been dumbed down so that it will please all the console gamers.

And that's all this game really is, a console game recompiled for pc. It's the exact same as the console game.

So I didn't even finish it. Started playing deus ex 1 again instead. Don't buy this game, it sucks....
