Pffft! That is tough. How could I possibly choose 5 from so many I love? Well, this is what I like at the moment:

    Thievery Corporation
    Massive Attack
    Jeff Buckley
    Depeche Mode
    B.B.King

But next week it might be Simon and Garfunkel, Propellerheads, Supertramp, Manu Chao and Groove Armada, to name a few.

The number 1 all time greatest band in my mind is the Red Hot Chili Peppers because the have lasted so long and keep producing quality music.

2nd: Audioslave. Hated the voice of the singer from Rage Against the Machine but loved their instrumental work. Chris Cornell has an amazing voice that fits with the sound of Morello, Commerfield and Wilk better then the other guy did.

3rd: U2. For also being around for many years and not changing their sound. Also the amazing amount of work that Bono puts in to charity. For Gods sake, he pretty much single handedly persuaded the Bush administration to give $16 Billion to help relieve aids in Africa

4th: The White Stripes. No real reason, they just have a cool sound that amazes me because there are only 2 of them

5th: Modest Mouse. They just have really cool music

Ack! That's pure heresy! Zach De La Rocha made RATM great! While I still like most of the instrumentals of Audioslave, I can't stand Chris Cornell's voice. It sounds like he's constipated, and he's only singing to get things flowing... :shake:

I'm not a fan of any of that 'constipated rock'. Bands like Nickelback and Puddle of Mud really annoy me. :bad:

I'll take Rage over Audioslave any day TYVM. :thumb: :rolling:

Buddy Rich was the greatest drummer of all time. He basically showed the world the drums could be a musical instrument and not just something to keep the beat.

If I were to add a sixth person, it would be Chet Atkins, who many consider to be the greatest guitarist ever and most great modern guitarists list him as a major inspiration in their playing.

Never heard of Chet Atkins either. And what makes Ray Charles so influential? I've only ever heard of a half dozen Ray Charles songs. They're nice songs, but what makes him more influential than, say, The Beatles?

Er, composers count as artists, right? If not, add Jimmy Eat World to the list in place of Tchaikovsky

    Turbonegro
    Dropkick Murphys
    Jokke & Valentinerne
    The Pixies
    Coca Carola

Top 4 is the fundaments of my music collection. The 5th place is more uncertain and tomorrow it may be Dead Kennedys, Ramones, Alice in Videoland, Terrorgruppe or anything. It's just that the last days I've been listening alot to Coca Carola.

Tough question, but I guess I had plenty of time to think about it.

    1. Tom Waits - His music is... varied. From sensitive ballads to murder ballads, from blues to acid drenched blues and from poetry to junkyard noise poetry. There isn't much of his work I don't like, so that's why he's my #1.

    2. Deep Purple - I'm only familiar with their classic Mark II line-up, but those guys made three kick ass studio albums and only one year apart each! Add the best live album of all time and you got my #2 all time favorite artist. They say the music you listen to in your teenage years stays with you forever, and it's true, I can still dream every note of Child In Time in my mind if I want to.

    3. Roy Buchanan - One of the, if not the best guitarist that ever lived. Even in his entirely instrumental songs I can exactly feel the story that he wants to tell. His bluesy guitar riffs can bring a tear to my eye.

    4. B.B. King - Perhaps not the best guitarist, the best singer or even the most traditional blues musician, but he introduced me to the blues, that's why he is my #4.

Number 5 is a little bit harder; who do I give the last spot on my list?
The Who comes to mind, because John Entwistle is in my opinion the best bassist ever (and sort of an ultimate goal for my own bass playing self), and even though they have some amazing songs, they also a lot of songs that don't make me warm or cold.
I briefly thought of giving the #5 position to Popa Chubby. A little known New Yorker who plays the hell out of his guitar. His music isn't brilliant (he has some nice songs, and kicks ass live), but it was in my cd player a lot when things seemed bleak, that's why he is special to me.
Janis Joplin (probably the best female vocalist ever) crossed my mind.
    So, after some long consideration:
    5. Flogging Molly - A relatively new band. Their music is punky, folksy, energetic, and sometimes touching. They have the kind of music that can make your day, even when your walking through a rain storm. I've been listening to them a lot lately, and in time they might disappear from this list, but for now, I'm willing to give them the #5 spot.

Chet Atkins was a great musician. He was one of the best guitarists who ever lived. He was also a great producer, mainly during the 60's. He mostly did country music
