What's up with all the reagents?

So I have several bags filled with reagents, yet have only found 2 uses for them: to see the magic shop in town (and she doesn't have anything i need anymore) and to get into the secret wizard's home from his cottage.

Is there any reason for me to carry this stuff around? Try not to spoil anything for me, but I have at least 5 bags filled with this junk. I'd have even more, but all those fire beetle bellies I got in Ch 1 I sold to the Paladin since the buy back cost was the same and I felt if I found a need i would get them back, but I guess not now.

On a side note, I took the death domain for the free companion, and I though it said the shadow would increase in power as you level up, well I'm now 10th level and he still has 19hps. Does it ever change? I still like some of the added spells for the domain, so I'm not at a total lost there.

Don't know much about the reagents, never used them much either. Maybe you can find a guide to help you here. I browsed through Colthrun's Arcane Crafting and the Neverwinter Grimoire, but couldn't find anything in those (I might have missed something, though).

Regarding the summoned shadow, did you take all of those 10 levels as a cleric? Testing here, I get:
    • Cleric lvl 1-7: lvl 3 Shadow
    • Cleric lvl 8-10: lvl 6 Shadow Mastiff
    • Cleric lvl 11-14: lvl 7 Shadow Fiend
    • Cleric lvl 15-40?: lvl 10 Shadow Lord
Tested until cleric lvl 25, but the summon remained a shadow lord, so I'm guessing it won't change anymore after lvl 15. Most summons are just so much cannon fodder at higher levels anyway.

If i recall correctly, the reagents are for some custom crafting later on the campaign... it's been years since i last played the OC, but it was something like tossing them in a cauldron and making a special item...

or was it another game? :)

Yes, I've done that once to enter the evil wizard's secret room, and I have a book detailing making something out of a skeleton knuckle and a crystal, but I need to cast mage armor, and I'm a cleric...

I now have 6 containers of reagents, never know when I might need them or have a chance to make something. I've probably sold just as much to clear space. The lady who sell's magic stuff but requires a reagent to open her store would require some extra stuff, but I no longer need anything from her shop and the anti-lycanthrope guy gives me the best selling price on everything i collect so I have no need to return to her store.
