I have a website and blog as a writer, which I am using to create a platform for my eventual work. I haven't posted to it in ages because I haven't had anything I wanted to post, but I know I need to be more consistent.

I have also heard that blogs of this type (to eventually garner traffic and purchases of books) should have a solid focus. Unfortunately, there are a million "This is how I write," blogs, so I needed to come up with something new. This was very difficult, since I don't ever plan to stay in just one genre, so I can't talk about something that is exclusive to one genre or another (the easiest way to make a writing blog more focused).

It's taken me awhile, but it feels like a slap on the head to realize what the focus should be. I'm a feminist, and because of that, I tend to be very deliberate in my portrayal of men and women in my books. I also find that people, in general, have a mistaken view of what a feminist is. We're seen as man-hating hypocrites who want superiority of women rather than equality of the sexes. While it is true there are some feminists like them, they are the loud extremist minority rather than the majority. Just as there are extremist Christians . . . but I have yet to hear a Christian say, "I believe in Christ's teachings, but I'm not a Christian like those crazy guys."

I chose this focus because although I write in several genres, male and female representations are often a core part of what I'm doing with the novel. There are, of course, other themes that take precedence. For example, Cipher's Code is about honor and protection more than it is about women or men. But there are still moments in that story that reflect my ideas about gender. Gender is probably one of the main elements that transfers across all of my novels in one way or another. So it made sense for that to be the focus of my blog.

This doesn't mean I'm abandoning my blog here! I will occasionally post links to that blog, but this blog is going to continue to be about the fun, interesting, and thoughtful things on my mind that wouldn't fit over there.

Here's the link to my website. From there, you can go to my blog:

Thanks! I already have the next one written, so as long as I'm at least one or two ahead, it should be doable.
