I can't get bg2 to run playable on Windows 7.

I run the game with microsoft compability administator under admin rights with ForceDirectDrawEmulation.

I tried with all 3 possibilities for the 3d acceleration.

    (Also tried/did:
running it without the compatibility administrator
    ambient sounds/placed sounds off
    newest graphics driver )

I think I isolated the performance hit to moving sprites?
eg. each moving character -15 fps,
when I cast web while the missile moves laag, once it impacted everything is mellow again

I also noticed that many of fog of war tiles are not correctly rotated.

    Anyone got an idea/similar problem?

I had the exact same problem as you. It took me a few days to fix, here is a list of things I did although I am not sure which actually did it.

Thats the best info I have found on the problem. A few other things.

Go into Configure and trying changing a few things around. I found that turning off high ambient sound as well as changing when the script appears helps alot. You do not get as much info on whats going on but I think thats what really helped. I also turned off Advanced Path Finding and set a few other things to lower settings. I restart my computer before playing and turn off wireless connection.

I used to have mouse lag every 1 to 2 minutes. Now its about ever 20-25.

    Thank you!

The solution was install generalized biffing (big world option) and increasing the cache size to 2 gigabytes in the config.

I don't know how but somewhere I guess a titanic amount of swapping was going on.
