    It's my surname.
However more interestingly and embarrassingly the first name I used on a forum was Drizzt Do'Urden. The Baldur's Gate manual was lying on the desk while I was choosing one, so I had the bright idea of flicking through it and choosing a "cool" looking name, Drizzt obviously stood out. I stopped using it when I realised the name wasn't quite as obscure as I thought...

My two favorite names that I use for anything requiring a login are Alura and Alerelean. I found them both in magazines. Alura from a succubus figurine in a Reaper magazine, and Alerelean from a painting in a Dragon magazine. I try to use Alura first, but it’s now usually taken, so I end up having to use Alerelean a lot. If somehow both are taken, I make up a new one by changing around a letter or two.

So half or more Alura’s, most or all the Alerelean’s, and any very similar names, you see on the internet are probably me.:p

I found Magister in several books series, where it was used as a title for a powerful wizard/sorcerer/mage etc. I started using it because I was (and still am) obsessed with magic and whenever you go to join an online community there is ALWAYS a profile named sorcerer or wizard. So I went with Magister (or some variation thereof).
Before that I didn't really have an online name (mainly because there was nothing I could do with 56k I at the time ;))

[IMG] my profile name is supposed to be celtic, but misspelled.:o Not that it matters with the pronunciation.:p
I got it from an old song I like, by the scottish band Runrig.

I was also thinking of the signature:
"I wish to summon a horde to overrun my enemies."
but I'm not sure everyone would get it...

What the heck, here's the song, if anyone's interested:

Name is taken from Finnish mythology, where Kullervo is sort of tragic, but also very talented character. The main reason choosing this kind of name was IWD2 (which I was playing when I registered) - for some reason people of the Wandering Village have old Finnish names.

Ohh, what the hey, I'll post it again...

I started out as Ichor, since there was a lot of that around in the Liveship traders By Hobb which I read aroud the time I joined in here and the concept also makes a brief cameo in BG2 in Harper hold. Blood of the gods etc. I also had named one of my longest-living Nethack characters as Ichor...

Then I changed my nick, can't remember why. Just put in the first thing that came into mind, this mythological finnish sea-monster-thingy. 'Iku' means ancient in...ancient finnish(probably) 'Turso' comes from or means the same as an octopus.

I like both of the names connotations and denotations. Nice associations spring into mind, especially if you consider the first part of my current nick in...some other language...if it means what someone said it'd mean. Oh well, at least the nick's got the tentacle thing written all over it :shake:

And I do love Octopi. Heck, cephalopods are one of the coolest critters there is. They're quite intelligent, playful, they have good eyesight and they have unique camouflage abilities, which also gives cuttlefishes a complex way of communication. Also, they're good to eat. :yum:

Whenever I see your nick, I always remeber an old irc chat log that whent something like this:

    *Some guy does something shocking
<P1> What D&D creature has the largest jaw?
    <P2> a Tarrasque?
    <P1> right!
<P1> /me changes in to that and drops his jaw

    :D :D :D

Posted this before but I don't mind posting again. If you know the story skip to the next post or thread. :)

I was playing IWDII. When I made up the party I wanted a female halfling fighter/thief who was just supposed to be a backup character. Named her Nakia Nightshadow. No particular reason just liked the way it sounded. Got to the foot the Dragon Eye section and hoards of those snakey type creatures came at us. Everyone in the party was hanging back and this tiny little being raced up to those giant creatures screaming "Here they come, more loot for all" and started whacking them in the lower parts of course. I just sat there staring at the screen amazed at this heroic but dumb person. I feel in love with her then and she became one of my most important characters. She was just so cute.

Needed help with IWDII and a search brought up Sorcerers Place back in 2003. Needed PDN and figured what better one than Nakia Nightshadow. Dropped the Nightshadow when I found out there was an elf wandering around the Internet with the name Nakia. Didn't want anyone else on SP using Nakia. :p

Thus was the legend born and granny rogue was born.

I took it from the name of my most memorable D&D Character, Gnelson Gnarfflinger, a Gnome Illusionist-Thief (2nd edition), who became a Rogue with a little fighter mixed in and the Duelist Prestige Class when third edition came out. If I inflict my 4e players to this little bugger, he'll likely be a wizzard that specializes in distracting effects.

When I started looking for e-mail adresses and login names that weren't taken, I opted for Gnarfflinger. Google it and you'll only find places where I've been...

Hmm... I like jokes, even though I'm not good at telling them. Anyway, I remember reading a big, big book of jokes (mostly Bulgarian/Russian stuff I guess) in high school (who the heck put it in a school library I don't know) - political, dirty, non-PC, you name it. I liked the Chukcha jokes the most. For those who don't know, the Chukcha is the name of a tribe iirc closely related to the Inuit that lives in NE Russia. In the jokes they tend to take the role of the ignorant bumpkin/savage, and the shamans are the ones who often try to make any sense of it all. So at first I used Chukchata or Chukcha Shaman as a nick, from then on it became just The shaman.

As an aside, here are two basic chukcha jokes - and another that just came to mind.

A Chukcha applies for membership in the Union of Soviet Writers. He is asked what literature he is familiar with. "Have you read Pushkin?" "No." "Have you read Dostoevsky?" "No." "Can you read at all?" The Chukcha, offended, replies, "Chukcha not reader, Chukcha writer!"

A Chukcha returns home from Moscow to great excitement and interest. "What is socialism like?" asks someone. "Oh," begins the Chukcha in awe, "There, everything is for the betterment of Man. I even saw that Man himself!"

A missile silo officer nods off during his watch. As colonel comes in, the officer snaps up and proudly reports: "Nothing to report during my watch, comrade Colonel" "Nothing to report, you say? Nothing to report?! Then where the ^&@# is Belgium?!!"
