Anyone who has stumbled upon my profile knows of my love for Columns. It is with pleasure that I review the AWESOME Turbografx16 port of Columns.

First, a bit of history... Columns was released on Master System, as well as on the almighty Genesis, a wonderful console with so many classic games. Speaking of, I added the Genesis version of Columns to my collection, as well as Shinobi 3 and Primal Rage (which I must say looks a HELL of a lot BETTER on the 32X).

Anyway, on to the review. Columns is basically a cross between Tetris and Bejeweled. Line any three gems in horizontal, vertical, or diagonal way, they're eliminated, you get points, and the blocks keep dropping until reaching the top of the screen.

Having played both the Genesis and the Turbografx version, I will honestly I have grown to prefer the Turbografx version. The actual block drop area in the Genesis version is smaller, so you need less blocks to reach the top, making the Genesis version INSANELY CHALLENGING, as the speed picks up INCREDIBLY QUICK.

The Turbografx port features a significantly taller "block drop area", making this version a little more forgiving and allowing you a couple of split seconds more time to plan your next move. This, by no means, means that the Turbografx version is less difficult, quite the contrary. My current high score is 4667 blocks, though I'm still doing well, and plan on picking back up this three hour old labor of COLUMNS love.

If you're a puzzle game fan, be it Tetris or Bejeweled, check out Colums, it's definitively worth your time.

On a side note... I know I left out the Master System version, but it's not fair comparing the 8-bit Master System version versus the Genesis and Turbografx's 16-bit ports. The Master System version WILL be reviewed soon.
