[IMG] Does anyone know if the 9th level wizard spell Weird actually works as it is supposed to? This is what happened when I casted it against a group of 6 enemies: Each of them makes a will save; 5 failed and one succeeded; each of them then makes a fortitude save (against death); all but one succeeded; the one that failed the fortitude save died, everyone else took some damage.

BUT, shouldn't they die as soon as they fail the initial will save?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

For the PnP version of the spell, the initial Will save is to determine whether or not the subjects see through the illusion. If they succeed, then nothing. If they fail the Will save, then the Fort save determines whether they die (failed save) or take damage (succeed).

[IMG] Yikes. It looks like that is how Weird is implemented in NWN, too. I guess the bug is then in the spell description, not in the actual spell itself.

Does this mean that Weird is just a group-effecting version of Phantasmal Killer? What is the advantage of using Weird as opposed to Wail of Banshee then, other than the very rare occasion when I need to cast the spell on more than 20 monsters at the same time?

    Thanks for your help! :)

Yup, Weird is the same as Phantasmal Killer except that it can affect more than one creature. The advantage over something like Wail of the Banshee is that Wail of the Banshee, like Fireball and other area affect spells, affects everyone around them. Weird *should* only affect enemies, the same way that Sleep or Hold Person does.

    Glad I could help!

I thought that Wail of the Banshee was also enemies only, unlike the other AE spells.

I haven't played a spell caster, so Wail of the Banshee might only affect enemies, and it does say that in the NWN guide book. *But*, the actual PnP spell affects anyone (other than the caster) within a 30 ft. radius. I hope they didn't alter it, since it's such a killer spell and it would make it really unbalanced - like a fireball that only affects enemies.
