Xvim is quiet tough but you should be able to beat him if you've prepared. I usually summons a lot of undead (Animate Dead is very powerful) and just pummel him until he goes down. I think he is more vulnerable to blunt weapons but I could be wrong.

Exactly who´s in your party? What sorts of weapons do you have? If you're not damaging him it must mean that your doing something wrong... Last time I faced him (with my drow party) I summoned five undead who kept him preoccupied while I was killing the lesser demons. I had my bard and sorcerer (with the fewest hitpoints) stay out of the way, since he is fond of casting AOE-spells. When the party is at level 14-15 those undead are really powerful, which mean that they will keep him occupied. When the lesser demons are gone I used had my party hitting him over and over again... Since he does hit hard it is a good idea to have your clerics loading up on a few "Heal". And of course - buff your self with spells like Emotion: Hope, Barkskins, Ironskins and such. Eventually he should fall...

Isn't Xvim immune until you kill off his demons? I remember something like that..

He might be - I've never considered that since I just use the tactic I mentioned. Anyway - it would be helpful if we knew what's your party look like. And remember that there are excellent walkthroughs that gives you the solutions to almost every battle.

I don't think so. The way I remember it, I normally summon undead and send them against the demons, and focus on taking him down, leaving the demons (who are relatively easy to kill) until later.

As far as my parties, I'll usually throw my rear-guard (generally a wizard-rogue and a sorceror type) in some hiding spot and have them snipe the demons, while my other 4, all armed with +4 weapons (or better, if I have a paladin with Cera Sumat, etc), go against Xvim.

Everyone buffed w/ Mass Haste, Bless, Prayer, Emotion: Hope, Stoneskins, Ironskins, a few of those high-level clerical buffs (can't remember their names now), everyone with maxed-out Dex and Str scores (whether due to items or Bull's STR/Cat's Grace).

Actually, the most important thing, to be able to kill Xvim, is to follow some quest-related directions in one of the walk-throughs. The way I remember it, if certain things haven't been done in the right order, he is invulnerable. I think so, I am on the road and cannot refer to my walkthrough.

Naw, that's the demons. They respawn infinitely unless you have completed the Purification Ritual and then (IIRC) broken the globe. It is while you are completing the ritual that Xvim tries to interrupt.

I don't remember having any particular trouble with Xvim, but that might be because I Mass Dominate his little demon minions and have them attack him while my guys are laying down the Big Death.

Yeah, spmdw45, you are right. There should be no quest-related difficulties with Xvim.

    Ger-man, check out: http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/IWD2/Walkthrough/chapter6/area5.php .

This solution does note that Xvim is highly resistant to slashing attacks. Apparently vulnerable to electricity (I never noticed as I don't think I've ever cast any spells on him).
