Awesome movie. I'm not usually blown away by the visuals in a film, but this was intense. The musical score was also really good, it had adrenaline-pumping techno riffs and also dramatic music for the more serious parts. And Journey's Separate Ways was played in the movie too :D

You guys definitely have to see it asap.

    TRON
    LEGACY
    *dramatic TRON music*

This is not one of the best sequels ever. This is THE best sequel ever! Please understand, I grew up on Tron. Growing up, Tron was as big to me as Star Wars was to everyone else. As big as Star Trek. Tron was my childhood. Well, along with all those other things. And snow. I've been a huge Tron fan for as long as I can remember. So, naturally, I was psyched out of my mind when I heard they were making a sequel. And better, they were getting Jeff Bridges to play Kevin Flynn again. And even better, the kid they got to play his son actually looked like him. And even better, every preview I saw got me even more psyched, even more excited. This was going to be GREAT.

Of course, that's always the risk: that you over-hype your own expectations and end up getting disappointed with a merely mediocre sequel. I did that with Voyage of the Dawn Treader (another childhood favorite, though in book form). Voyage of the Dawn Treader was a very good movie, as I've come to realize over time, but it was nothing compared to the book. Nothing compared to what it could have been. Nothing compared to what I wanted it to be. So please, understand what I mean when I say this. After decades of waiting without even knowing that I was waiting, Tron Legacy blew all my over-hyped expectations out of the water! It was better than the best sequel ever. It was better than the best movie of the year, or even of the decade. This is as if they had make Episodes 1, 2, and 3, and they had actually been better than 4, 5, and 6. In fact, I'll say that this is the best movie since Return of the Jedi.

The music was excellent. The graphics were stunning. Jeff Bridges was awesome. Jeff Bridges' double was awesome. Olivia Wilde was great. Garrett Hedlund was perfect. Bruce Boxleitner was remarkable. The setting was increadible. But the plot was unbelievable. This is one of those movies that could have gotten away with a really mediocre plot and still done well. It didn't. It made a breakthrough with an increadible plot that leaves TONS of room for expansion, and they'd better not wait another 28 years to do the expanding. Yet it's also satisfying. And best of all, it's fitting with the times, and the contrast between then and now. It does an increadible job of sibtly contrasting the eyes-wide-open gleeful enthusiasm and idealism of when the first movie was made, mixed with the philosohpical mysticism of the day, against the this-isn't-what-we-were-promised, yet this-is-what-we'll-make-of-it, attitude of today.

I just got back from seeing this movie, and I want to see it all over again. And then play the video game. And then see the sequel. And then play the video game they'll release alongside the sequel. And even then I'm not sure I'll be satisfied.

Instead, I'll just have to watch the original all over again. :D

I really think NOG is pretty ambivalent about this movie, no? :p

If there was one thing that I could change or add to this movie, it would be that a young Bruce Boxleitner as Tron and Kevin Flynn having a brief final face to face, for all times sake... before that "final" thingy. Hehehe.

    Nior, I think:
that that would probably have been hard to fit in without ruining Tron's end, which isn't really an end at all as far as I can tell. I expect to see him again.

Saw this opening night. One of the best movie experiences I have ever had. I had to pee within the first fifteen minutes, but everytime I tried to get up, something new and amazing happened. Yes, the dialogue was somewhat corny at points, and the plot isn't amazing, but the visuals were epic. Handlebars that turn into X-wings? **** YEAH! I was actually standing up with my arms raised at points in the film, yelling "AHHHH," or "YESSSS!!!!" and clapping. Incredibly entertaining.

So the plot's crap, the writing's crap, but the graphics are other worldly?

No, the plot is just nothing miraculous. It is a standard action movie plot - Son searches for father, tries to save him from the father's creation (that isn't a spoiler, by the way). Dialogue is also nothing clever for most of the time. There are a few lines thrown in there that are amusing in a crowd, but will probably fall flat on a second viewing (Jeff Bridges has some funny one-word lines that are more silly than anything).

The acting is good though. Olivia Wilde is both disarmingly cute, knowledgeable, and seductive at the same time.

Looking at Blades' post quoting NOG's post with all those BoM snow falling around felt very Star Wars-sie.

On an unrelated side note, did you know there was a Tron game on Intellivision? It's called Tron Deadly Discs, and despite the controls being ass, this is a fun little game.

There are a number of Tron games out, both from the old movie and the new one.

I know, I just felt like digging up an old F'N console. The Intellivision has a D&D game, too.

Oh gosh, that brings back memories. Not many, mind you, but memories nonetheless. I think a neighbor must have had one of those when I was 3 or something.

    I enjoyed the movie myself.

There was a part of me that was hoping they could work in David Warner on a revenge bender, simply because he has that kind of voice that screams 'intelligent dastardly villain'.

Then again, the story of the sequel made sense on a certain level, so I could live with the fact that they didn't want to force Warner's presence back into it. :)
