    OK, here's the link

I think it's great that she loves dogs. I in no way condone Vick's asinine behaviour. But Rock made a joke, for heaven's sake. And she shouldn't be talking anyhow -- is she so utterly stupid that she doesn't realize that Pryor's jokes likely offended people? That's what comedians do. If she seriously thinks Rock is a bad person for making a joke, then she has her head a long way up her butt -- or up a dog's butt, who knows with these animal rights psychos. The sanctimonious hypocrisy here is mind blowing.

Yet another reason I completely hate animal rights psychos -- they have no sense of balance, proportion, or decency. The one bright thing here is that Rock is well out of it -- he's better off not associating with psychos.

Comedians do sometimes offend people, but Richard Pryor is a different comedian from a different era. He may have been somewhat edgy in his time, but by modern standards, he isn't. Not even a little.

That said, why on earth do you think Pryor's wife is an idiot for believing that torturing, drowning, electrocuting and murdering dogs is no laughing matter? We all have things that we believe aren't funny. We all have things that we believe you shouldn't joke about. We are all unlikely to hire someone who makes jokes that we don't find funny about things we believe you shouldn't joke about. Her hot buttons aren't in the same place as your hot buttons. It doesn't make her an idiot.

I'm sure you guys wouldn't be inclined to hire someone who joked publicly about matters that are near and dear to your hearts, which you don't find funny, and which you don't think should be joked about.

My issue is that her response indicates she took him seriously. She didn't say "I didn't find that joke funny", or "Animal abuse is no laughing matter", or anything of the kind. Her response was a logical refutation of Chris Rock's joke, which tells me she didn't realize it was a joke.

It's like if I told a joke about the 3 greatest Polish inventions (heard that one from a polack friend) and you pulled out an encyclopedia to start an intellectual refutation of my claim. I'd sit there, stare at you for a second, tell you it was a joke, and walk away with my impression of your IQ (or at least sense of humor) vastly diminished.

And Richard Pryor, even being from a different era, still used plenty of racism humor.

    Umm, no:

The last sentence makes it pretty clear that she knew it was a joke, unless she doesn't know what a stand-up routine is. The first sentence indicates that she feels that these types of jokes only serve to diminish the seriousness of the crime.

Yeah dog owners can be quite touchy when it comes to hurting dogs. My sister has two dogs training them eagerly and they are a big part of her life. When she told me that similar dog breeds were used by germans during the WWII and I commented that they were probably also delcious during the cold winter in Stalingrad, her face afterwards told me that she did not find the remark even remotely amusing.

My mother (being along with my sister a big animal rights advocate) allways used to say that unlike human beings, animals don't understand violence (only using violence as self defence or hunting for prey) and aren't capable of evil, and that's why hurting an defenceless animal is to her like hurting a human child, making it even worse than hurting a human being. I share her feelings to a degree allthough I haven't really had the same passion for animal rights issues as she has.

As a small sidenote I've allways wondered how veterinarians can manage their work, especially those who are responsible for inspecting farms and slaughterhauses for animal abuse. The stuff they see most be completely horrifying to them, especially when a lot of the cases they file are thrown out of court if they even reach the courts.

Hypocrisy is idiocy, IMHO. To claim that (or act as if)Rock's humor is somehow wrong while her dearly departed husband's was pristine is hypocrisy and self-righteousness to the nth degree.

    @ Morgoroth:

I had a German Shepherd together with my ex-gf, and we used to joke around with anyone asking if it was hard raising and/or having one. "Sure, we love her, but then there's days we just think she'd make a delicious German Shepherd soup / a fine pair of gloves."

Maybe not 100% politically correct, but that was kind of the whole point of it. Got some priceless facial expressions out of that comment, let me tell ya. Try this one for size to your mom & sister. :)

I'm beginning to get the impression that you've never seen Richard Pryor.
