Tanning beds are dangerous, who would of thought?

    Blades - were you serious about the "Who would have thought" part? I mean, we know that UV radiation causes skin cancer, and we know that tanning beds work by use of UV light, so it seems to be a rather logical conclusion that tanning beds increase the risk of skin cancer. I'm surprised it took this long for it to be "officially" acknowledged.

    You are seriously asking me if I was serious? Seriously? :D... Of course not Aldeth, just a little sarcasm is all. But I was serious about using them in the past. I'm not as bad as the guy from the movie "Powder", but I'm fairly light-skinned, so I would like to tan a little in the booths, so I wouldn't burn as bad once we hit the beaches...

    I'm not all that concerned about it. I think the risk is about the same if you would tan in the sun.

    I may need to renew my ex's subscription to LA Tan....

    True, but the sun doesn't turn you orange like tanning beds do. :p

    I really dislike tanning. I've gone only a handful of times, but the wife has a yearlong membership to a tanning salon...every time she goes, she comes home smelling weird - even if she doesn't use oils or lotions - so I make her take a shower asap.

    If I even try to tan I WILL get burned. To add insult to injury after the burns go I don't even have a hint of a tan.

    Tanning beds concentrate UV light so you tan faster than you would from the sun. Mutations galore.

    [​IMG] I'm lucky, relatively :lol: I have an olive base skin colour so I tan quite nicely without burning. Otherwise I'm incredibly pale and only am not as white as a ghost because any sun I do catch lasts a long time :D

    I went in the carrabeans this winter, and the girlfriend made me go to a tan salon for the first time.. I really hate it. I dislike getting in the coffin size booth... :(

    Do you people got stark naked in the booth or do you keep your underwear? I kept mine, as there's one place that comes to mind where I wouldn't want a sunburn... :lol:

    Kitrax, I don't think it's good to take a shower after a tannong session. I hear that you have to wait like 12 hours or huge blisters could appear on the skin...

    In any event, did I say I hate tan salons? :D

    That must be an Illinois thing - while I have never had a tanning membership, I dated several women who did (and this is different states, so not the same tanning salon), and in no instance was it required that they were naked. Furthermore, there was certainly no requirement that they VERIFY you are naked. That would seem like a basic invasion of privacy - like having peep holes in bathrooms or changing rooms or something like that.
