Neither do the Linux distro's that I use, which are debian and its easy-to-use cousin ubuntu. I'm not sure if you mean normal updates or kernel-upgrades, but they both suffer from the following problem. Doing upgrades without rebooting (or just restarting) can endanger the stability if there is a mistake *somewhere* in the upgrade process, since that would leave the system in an 'undefined' or 'unknown' state. The system is then neither the previous version, or the version you upgraded to. It just exists somewhere between both versions and you can never know, without thorough inspection, how the system is going to respond to certain events.

Just restart after an upgrade and you should be safe from those problems. However, the BSD's rate very high in stability and security. I just remember some problems with SBCL, which is what I use to program with.

Turns out there will be no jobs working on film for me this summer. Which means I am going to have to get a normal job, which means dealing with people. I hate people.

[IMG] Why do electronics always play up when I'm around? I just sneezed and the track I was listening to changed, wasn't even the end of the song :whoa:

Why people get angry at me when I tell them what they want to do is illegal ? Do they really think I can change that or that I give a damn for that matter ?

I clean apartments, and am almost always grouped alone with one of my best friends. Our supervisor only sees us about three times a day, so we can have a good time.

That sounds a lot like my mum. Things always break down when shes around.

...They break down when I'm around as well, but at least I know how to fix them ;)

Could be worse, my cousin has a bunch of steel rods running the entire length of his spine, and if he stands too close to a radio, you loose the signal. :nolike:

I have a friend like that 8. I set up her internet on wireless a few weeks ago and it was working fine until she sat down in front of the computer. She didn't even touch it and the whole network thingey just failed!

Started getting a headache last night and it was still there when I got up this morning. Damn thing was lurking around my coffee machine, waiting to pounce!

Depending on how fast it goes backwards, it will be correct at least twice each day. That's even better than a watch that stands still. :p If it goes backwards at normal speed, it will be correct four times a day.

Looks like I'm rebuilding the disaster recovery server again. Hopefully third time's the charm. I am going to be flashing the BIOS and upgrading all firmware first, however. Personally, I think the problem is the NIC, but the higher ups seem to think it's a software problem.

If the higher up are not trained computer technicians then listing to them may cause more harm then good.

People at the bottom suggest things that will let them do the least work, people at the top will suggest things that will save/make the most money, whilst the smart people in the middle will actually be just donig their jobs right...

What's happening to the weather?

It's been warm and sunny (and rather heavy) all of today. I went out at 18:30 for a quick nip to the supermarket, and while there were some clouds it still looked like a nice sunny evening. I walked out 20 minutes later to rain and wind, and now thunder and lightning!

Dr. Z: Just summer, methinks. It's actually becoming a pattern these last few years. Sun during day, thunder after sunset.

Side note: You know how the eagle eats (well, used to eat) Prometheus' liver every day and it grows back over night? Well, the freaky thing is, liver actually is the only "organised" organ in the human body with such regeneration capacity (mind you I'm not counting skin, GIT mucosa, blood elements, etc. just visceral organs) Anyway, if there is 25% of it left intact the liver will grow back.
Now, did Zeus tell the eagle that?
Or in RL terms - did the storytellers pick the liver by coincidence or did someone actually had some experience with liver regeneration? Javelins and all.
I guess liver is a rather nice target for carnivours - but the regrowth detail is a very, very, nice touch. :D

(Yup, this is what revising pharmacology looks like :p I love that book.)

Now if whoever invented the Prometheus story knew about the relative regeneration rates of body organs I am suddenly very, very impressed with the Greeks!

Can I have a peek into that book? Looks like fun :p

One of my all time favorites, in textbook category: Rang & Dale Pharmacology, (6th ed.)

BTW, it's impossible to fall asleep while holding it - imminent +3 crushing damage to ribs and poor fingers.

What about using it as a doorstopper or a paperweight? On second thought the latter won't work, it'll fuse all the papers together under the sheer physical stress of its weight!

Oh and I just found it on Elsevier's website. They're selling it for $85! No Rang & Dale for me then.

I'm also not that impressed with its weight. It's only 840 pages, which is about 150 pages short of Brock's Biology of Microorganisms (my personal Bible) and half the size of Solomon/Berg/Martin's Biology (now that one's a good paperweight!)

The more I use this 900MHz piece of Intel trash, the more I want to inflict the most merciless, painful and agonizing death my twisted mind can come up with.

Thankfully, I'm picking up my parts tomorrow...
