So I decided to restart BG2, since the last time I played was about five years ago. I installed TBP mod with Darkest Day, Shadows over Soubar and the Ease-of-use pack.

My problem is that I just cannot kill Torgal in de'Arnise Hold, even though I do well over 140hp worth of damage to him, he won't fall down so that I can kill him with acid. His status just remains at 'near death' until I finally run out of potions, spells etc. and die.

Has anyone else had a problem like this? It actually happened earlier with one of the scripted troll and guard fights on the main floor as well.

I, too, would like to know why. There seems to be a problem with regenerating creatures sometimes as I've encountered the same problem with the trolls in UB and with the Greater Wolfweres.

Yes, I remember having the same problem with Tactics Improved Torgal. I CTRL-Y'ed him a few times, was doing a few thousand damage per second to him, and he wouldnt die. I had to uninstall that mod component.

Haven't experienced exactly the same bug, but I have had problems with the infamous UB trolls. If memory serves, there was a problem in the scripts that caused them to attack a visible enemy in preference to falling over.

I'm not certain this will work, but you could try severely damaging him and then making sure he has no visible enemies. Or does Tactics allow him to bypass this (I wouldn't be surprised)?

I have trouble with immortal trolls but they'll usually keel over if you beat then to "Near Death" and then halt your attack and they usually fall over, then give them the coup de grace.

I've experienced this on an unmodded BG2 game and also IWD2 with the ice trolls. The way to deal with it is to stop attacking as starfox says. I usually stop attacking and have my party members fall back away from the fight, often the troll will take a couple of steps toward the retreating party and then fall prostrate and wait to become worm food.

    @starfox & nunsbane:

That is true for normal trolls and is good advice for anyone struggling with them. However, the trolls in question are bugged- if you stop attacking, they will still not fall over. This is true even if you Ctr-Y them and don't physically hit them.

The tactics mod. It makes quite a few fights notably harder. However, he was killable, and his claw was an almost broken weapon for that part of the game.

I tried fighting him with tactics improved torgal installed but that didn't work, tried uninstalling and that didn't work...is there any way to just kill him and get it over with? Console commands, anything?

Well, the vanilla Torgal can be Ctr-Y'ed and then hit with fire/acid when he crumples. Are you sure the problem isn't that you are just not fast enough inflicting the damage? He does regenerate fast so you need to make a concentrated effort to bring him down. If Ctr-Y doesn't work, then you have a bug. If it does, then your party simply isn't doing damage fast enough. Try Haste on yourself and Slow on him (to decrease his regeneration rate) after hitting him with Greater Malison.

No, unlike ordinary trolls, TorGal doesn't fall to require extra fire or acid damage to die. He dies straightly without crumpling. It's the same in the vanilla game as well as in the Tactics mod.

dertpk's problem is caused by some other mod or a bad combination of mods. A copy of the content of his WeiDu.log file might help (it's a text document inside the main BG2 folder).

Hmm? I've noticed that trolls don't crumple if you hit them all the time. If you fall back when they're in near death state, they'll crumple. It's the script. It needs that little time to work. If you keep hitting them in their near-death state all the time without giving them a breather to fall down, they don't, the damage-taking animation overrides the falling-down animation, or so it seems...

That's a differen matter. TorGal doesn't have that kind of script in the vanilla game (nor in Tactics mod) and should die normally and straightly without crumpling and without needing any workaround (such as waiting or giving time or the like).

Hmm, IIRC, this was something fixed by a patch or a bugfix...I think I might remember Torgal not dying right away the first few times I played the game through and that was without any bugfixes...

The vanilla TorGal doesn't have such a bug; perhaps you had some mod which had caused that bug in your game.

What happened when you Ctr-Y'ed him? Did he just go to near death and continue attacking?

From your mods, could the AI changes from Big Picture have caused this? Other than Shadows Over Soubar, it is the only one I haven't tried (so I'm not familiar with how stable it is) and I've not encountered the bug you've had.

Eh, it has been a while. Looks like my memory is going. *shrug*

Not even re-installing the game without any mods and loading my save worked...is there any way to fix this? Will starting a new game help?
