[IMG] I don't know if this has been posted already, but is it true that you can turn Sarevok from like chaotic evil to chaotic good, and if so, would this involve going down to Demogorgon's lair and killing him rather then just sealing up his lair?

Yes, it is possible to change Sarevok's alignment through dialog. Watcher's Keep and demogorgy have nothing to do with it.

I hope it doesn't take too long. I mean, I've already beat Watcher's Keep, Yaga, and Sendai.

    That's rather quick...
There is one prerequisite to turning Sarevok's alignment. I've never had him in my party, but I know that (SPOILER) you must not make him swear allegiance to you. If you have, his alignment will not change. (END SPOILER)

What? I read about his in the Ascension readme, but I got the impression that this was an addon specifically in the Ascension module. Not in the original ToB itself. I've played ToB through with one of the earlier versions with a good sorcerer and I never got Sarevok to even hint on changing alignment.

And I didn't make him swear allegiance.

The problem is it happens during his banter dialogs, which occur somewhat randomly. If you move through ToB too quick, you may not get the chance to change his alignment. You can speed things up, by using the CRTL+I cheat.

What's the alignment he changes to? Straight from CE to CG?

[IMG] I'm actually quite curious what is his new alignment.

I can't imagine it would take the huge jump from chaotic evil to chaotic good. He might move to chaotic neutral.

Wow, Balthazar would be shocked. The player character can pull both Viconia and Savevok away from evil! :)

Viconia can be turned from evil???

    Never knew that...

Must it be a Good character?
    Can a Neutral do it?

[IMG] If Viconia is your romance and you treat her with love and kindess, she will change alignment after the defeat of Yaga Shura.

Hmm, moving too fast is bad. Luckily, I have a save file way back when, so, I think if I took it slow on that file, I'd be ok.

It's illogical that Sarevok himself goes from CE to CG and Viccy from (mock) NE to N only (while nothing about balance is concerned but the moral wrongfulness of evil)

Not true, have made him take the oath and still gotten him to become CG. However I believe you need to be some sort of good alignment for this to be possible.

Old post but I still see some people mistakenly thinking Sarevok cannot become good if he takes the oath. I was able to have him do both.

I actually kept track of the answers I gave Sarevok so if someone wants to know how (it is generally not too hard to figure it out) to get him to change alignments I can tell them how.

I just got Sarevok to change alignment last night. Using the dialog rate increase tweak that is part of the banter pack mod he changed right before the party took on yaga shura.

Just in case someone wants to know and I'm haven't checked this thread here are the first 3 dialogues that I went through w. Sarevok and the answers I gave and still got him to turn Chaotic Good post-oath taking.

And yes it worked so you should get similar results if you try for yourself as this is right out of the vanilla ToB expansion (no mods or cheats).

    First Talk

S: So. I yet remain at your side. I am surprised. But from your constant wary glances it seems that you do not trust my presence, yet.

Possibilities: 1. You may have sworn an oath, but I hardly believe you’ll keep it.
    2. I may not like you, but I trust that you’ll keep your oath.
    3. You swore an oath, Sarevok, and I’m fine with that.

    If 3:

S: Yes... the oath. I told you that there was magic in our sire’s plane that would enforce an oath. And it’s true... I can feel its power even now. Oaths are binding when made in such a place.

S: But still, I am curious. Regardless of any oath you might have had me take, why did you agree to take me with you? You have no remaining grudges from our earlier matches?

Possibilities: 1. No, not really. You paid for what you did.
    2. You’re of use to me. That’s the only reason you’re here.
    3. I have plenty of grudges, but I may have need of you.
    4. You’re no match for me anymore, Sarevok.

    If 1:

S: I...paid for it. You do not still feel anger over what I did to your stepfather?

Possibilities: 1. No. You’re not the same man, are you?
    2. I will never forgive you. But no, I’m not angry about it.
    3. I never really cared much for Gorion anyway.
    4. Perhaps. But I already took my revenge. Now you get the benefit of the doubt.

    If 1 or 4:

S: An... interesting view, (character’s name). Perhaps it shall be your downfall. I shall have to think on it.

    Second Talk

S: It appears the seeds that our sire sowed long ago are about to come to fruition. For good or ill, the issue will be finally resolved very soon.

    Response options:

    1. Feeling jealous?
    2. So? What about it?
    3. This isn’t exactly how you thought it would happen, right?

    If the third is picked:

S: I once thought that I was the one spoken of by Alaundo’s prophecy, that is true. You may be the one, as well, although that has yet to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

S: Still, once this is all over, my use to you will be at an end. My oath to you will be over, (main character’s name). What do you intend to do with me, then?

    Response options:

    1. You’ll be free to go, as you wish.
    2. What do you mean? Why is it my decision?
    3. I couldn’t let you leave, knowing you were going to do evil.
    4. I intend to kill you again, of course.

    If 1 is chosen:

S: You would allow me to leave? We would just part ways, and I would be free to carry out whatever plans I wish, no matter what they might be?

    Response options:

    1. If that’s what you want. It’s not my decision.
    2. Your destiny is your own to forge, Sarevok. Make the same mistakes, if you must.
    3. And I would wish you the best.
    4. Not if you intend to do evil. Then I would have to stop you.
    5. I could care less what happened to you.

    If 4 is picked:

S: But I *am* evil, (main character’s name). I intend to gain power for myself, as I once did, although my exact plans will be different. Did you assume I would do otherwise?

    Response options:

    1. No. I suppose you’re free to make the same mistakes as before.
    2. I assumed that perhaps you had decided to live your life differently.
    3. I assumed that you would know better. That I would be forced to kill you.
    4. True. I guess I will have to kill you again, after all.

    If 1 is picked:

S: And do you believe I have another choice?

    Response options:

    1. Another choice than being evil? Always.
    2. It all depends on whether or not you want to end up in the same place, Sarevok.
    3. You always have another choice. I will not stop you.
    4. I suppose not. You cannot change a man’s nature.
    5. I could care less. Do as you like.

    If 1 is picked:

S: I see. I will think on your words, then, brother.

    Third Talk

S: The end draws closer. We both know this to be true. Listen to a proposition, then, that I have given much thought to as of late.

    Response options:

    1. Go ahead and tell me.
    2. I’ll listen, though I won’t promise anything.
    3. Speak if you must, but make it quick.
    4. I’m not interested in anything you have to say.

    If option 1 is chosen:

S: I expect no greatness from myself, (main character’s name). You should know this... the plans I once had to become the new Lord of Murder died with the loss of my taint.

S: Your own plans, however, are mostly unknown to me. Your nature is not as self-serving as my own, generally speaking... so it is difficult to gauge how welcome my overtures will be.

S: You my have decided to undertake my old goal and seek to become the new Lord of Murder... if such a thing is, indeed, possible. Or you may seek to rid yourself of our sire’s taint forever.

S: This is what my proposition relates to. (main character’s name), I urge you to seek the path of power. Take the reins that are meant for you and assume your birthright!

S: After all you have been through, it is the only reasonable path! And I beg you... allow Sarevok to stand at your side. Brother and brother in arms, together!

S: Imagine it, (main character’s name)... together we could advance across the Realms, an unstoppable force with an army at your command! You would be the ultimate terror and I would be your iron right hand, to rule over all!

    Response options:
    1. That does sound intriguing. It’s a possibility.
    2. I might be interested in assuming my birthright... but that doesn’t involve you.
    3. I have other plans, Sarevok. Forget it.

    If third option is chosen:

S: But why, (main character’s name)? Why would you not take that which will be offered to you?! Power, wealth, rule over lesser men! It is all within your reach!

    Response options:

    1. No matter what power I achieve, Sarevok, I do not seek to rule over others.
    2. Just because I take our father’s birthright doesn’t mean I will become evil.
    3. None of that is important to me, Sarevok.
    4. It doesn’t matter what happens to me, Sarevok... you won’t be involved, regardless.
    5. You still want power and wealth? Give it up, Sarevok.
    6. You are a fool, Sarevok. Have you learned nothing?
    7. I don’t want what you want. It’s very simple.
    8. It’s none of your business, Sarevok.

If option 1 or 2 is chosen:

S: I... don’t understand. What is the use of power if you do not carve out an empire for yourself?

    Response options:

    1. You can’t take an empire with you when you die. You should know that.
    2. There is much good that can be done with that power. That is more important.
    3. I don’t know. But it doesn’t have to be used for self-serving, evil purposes.
    4. With that power comes great responsibility.
    5. There are better things than power, don’t be a fool.
    6. I’m not going to discuss this with you. Begone.

    If option 2 is chosen:

S: After... after all you have been through? With the taint in your soul, you still believe this?

    Response options:

    1. I do.
    2. Perhaps. We shall see what occurs.
    3. Who knows? Had you going, though, didn’t I?

    If option 1 is chosen:

    S: I... I see.

S: I believe your words may have merit, (main character’s name). My own methods did not end well... and I have no desire to return to the Abyss when I perish, next.

S: Perhaps it is time to rethink my views. I shall have to think on your words most carefully.

Talk 4 (just to cement things):

    Fourth Talk

S: I... have been considering your words. I have changed my outlook, and I think perhaps it may be a good thing. I feel I must thank you.

    Response options:

    1. I’m happy to see it, Sarevok.
    2. It was your choice, Sarevok, not mine.
    3. Are you sure it’s what you want?

If option 1 or 2 is picked:

S: We shall see if my new view on life is something that will prove lasting. But... I cannot see a reason that it will not remain so.

S: There is much in my former life that I must... atone for, I think. Somehow, I think it will be a good goal to strive for... don’t you?
