SEVERED HAND – LEVEL 4

Hatemaster Drothan

First thing I do on arrival is to speak with Hatemaster Drothan, who's toward the northeast corner. It helps to have the Diary of Gatuk Katah on hand. I get xp bonuses for getting him to reveal the purpose behind the Iyacthu Xvim Holy Symbols, the origins of the Globe of Essence, who may know how to destroy the Globe, and convincing him to leave the Severed Hand altogether.

Lesson in Anatomy

Towards the southwest corner of the level is a class being held by several Devils and a Ruinlord on human anatomy, for killing purposes obviously. This is a pretty routine fight, albeit with the tactical nuance of Akutagawa racing ahead to try and kill the Ruinlord with Quivering Palm. When that doesn't work I stun the Ruinlord.

Guard Barracks

Now I go to the north side and speak with the Drow woman named Rikki, who recommends taking out the Guard Barracks to the south. It is possible to do this by creating a potion from the Bonding Agent, the Virulent Agent, and either the Demon's Blood, or Tainted Demon's Blood, and then having Miram the cook mix it into the Guards' food. But I prefer to resolve this differently. Rikki also sells:

It's actually more xp bonus to just kill the Guards. Since there's only a small doorway leading into the Barracks, it's a prime opportunity to use crowd-control spells. I go the max here, including Sunray from Alliria and Fiery Cloud from Tithian. Once only a Ruinlord and a Red Wizard are left, I move a little east and out of the line of sight. This leaves the Ruinlord stuck and unable to target spells while in the cloud-damage and crowd-control zone, while the Red Wizard is forced to come out within easy reach of my warriors. Once only the Ruinlord is left I easily shoot him down at a distance.

One chest in the room will have spell scrolls for Wail of the Banshee and Power Word: Blind

The other chest will have the Chain of Drakkas (+7 armor class, no maximum dexterity bonus, can use arcane spells and thieving abilities without penalty while worn). This is the perfect armor for Tithian. You can have a rogue sneak in, sweet talk the leader of the guards, pick the chest for the armor, and then Hide to get out of there if you want to avoid a fight for the time being.

Now I briefly stop off at Orrick's Tower.
