Getting Here:  Cernd will place the Druid Grove on your world map.

"A wonderful place it once was, filled with multicoloured birds singing and flying in the high canopy of trees, fire flies flickering in the twilight and frogs chirping from their ponds. Now, it is a place of evil, long shadows and any animal left within its radius as hostile as any foul beast in the lands. Tread carefully if you plan on going there."

Druid Grove  |  Map | All Quests | All Items | All Monsters

As you enter this place of darkness, you will be introduced to Pauden as he steps forth from the bushes along the side of the path and speak to you about what has become of the Druid Grove, so listen well to what he has to say. Prepare to embark on thy journey through the twisting paths of tall grass, looming trees, ponds and thorn bushes and ready thyself for anything that will come darting towards thee!

Making your way through the Druid Grove, you will experience attacks by Trolls, Ice Trolls, Sword Spiders, Spiders, Giant Spiders, Phase Spiders and Ettercaps that will do their best to slow your advance towards Faldorn's Lair, where the true evil lays.

The sounds that you will hear shall only add to your own experience and you need not worry too much about those creatures you shall be facing as mentioned above as they are nothing more than fodder for the feeding weeds and other animals who hunt within the Druid Grove.

Outside Troll Lair

The twisting route will eventually lead you to a very large, skull faced, circular hut which is being guarded by a number of Trolls both inside and out. Battle your way through their forces and make your way inside for there are treasures within that await your taking, and worth while ones if I may add as well. Giant Trolls, Trolls and Spectral Trolls will be your target for both sword, arrow and magic so make it count.

You will also want to be weary as you explore the outside of the Troll Lair for not too far away are a few Shadow Druids along with spell casters and fighters, which could be a little more than you wanted to handle if you're already fighting the Trolls nearby.

It is best to scout as well for anything or anyone could be using the foliage to take cover and use this advantage for an ambush against the party.

Druid Grove  -  Kyland Lind's Ambush

The Ambush
The Ambush

It is wise to have healed any bloody wounds from the previous battles for it is here, you will get ambushed by a fairly strong force of Shadow Druids led by Kyland Lind who wants nothing more than to bring your party to their knees. The Shadow Druids will do everything in their power to slow you down and then assault you with everything they have and that means multiple Call Lightning spells on everyone in the party.

One of their tactics is to have one Shadow Druid cast Entangle while the rest concentrate on the stuck party members with showers upon showers of lightning bolt strikes from the very sky above. Having some sort of Protection from Lightning or resistance to this type of strategy would be well worth resting for.

The Ambush
The Ambush

I found this battle to be a bit tough for I was not prepared for the rain of Lightning Bolts that the Shadow Druids weave and target on the party and once the Entangle spells took effect, many members got stuck and that gave the Shadow Druids time to weave other spells of damage and annoyance. I was able to break free eventually and win the battle for I had Aerie and Jaheira some ways away and they rushed to back up my Entangled front line fighters with offensive spells of their own.

The reward is a little slim for pickings and is not a battle you can avoid so do be prepared for it.

It is here that Adratha lives, a brewer of exotic potions that could very well help you for the journey you will experience soon enough. Inside, the run down, wooden cottage is littered with straw, scattered boxes and turned over tables but Adratha doesn't seem to have much of a problem with it and if you're nice to her, you'll get to see her list of items that she has for sale.

It is a perfect place to stock up if you're low on any healing potions or other magical liquids that take your fancy so do browse through her small list.

It is not the last time though, that you will be meeting with Adratha for this is the very person that the Djinn are looking for, the Rakshasha whose head they want and once they attain it, will leave Trademeet once and for all. Of course, after the Djinn have asked you to find this Rakshasha, she will know that you have been sent by them and will attack you as soon as you step into the cottage and she will not be alone this time either.

Jalaal and Saadat will also join her in this battle, all three weaving spells at the party in hopes to get away, but don't let that happen! Once all three have been taken care of, make sure you grab IHTAFEER'S HEAD, who will be known to you now as her true name, Ihtafeer. Taking IHTAFEER'S HEAD to the Djinn in Trademeet will not only have them leave the town, but also reward you.

Do make sure you take the time to explore the small tower next to this cottage and although it is empty, it holds a rewarding sword that could be useful during your travels.

Druid Grove  -  Faldorn's Lair

Inside of Faldorn's Lair

It is here that your journey will eventually take you, to Faldorn's Lair where the evil Shadow Druid resides and runs the show of the Druid Grove. On your way here, you will face a Spore Colony, which I suggest you remove as quickly as you can. I had the misfortune of thinking I could go in with one character and remove each Spore Colony before it spawned the Myconids and before I knew it, I was surrounded more than a dozen and the rest of the party had to come to the rescue. It's not very fun when your main character is running around and you have no control over him with sixteen or so Myconids taking shots!

Thankfully, the rest of the party was able to get me out of the jam as Aerie just launched a Fireball right towards them, taking many out in the process.

You will also meet Cernd if you do not have him your party, standing not too far away from Faldorn's Lair, so speak with him and tell him what you have learned thus far. The final battle with Faldorn is on its way, so be ready!

At the entrance to Faldorn's Lair, standing around the stone circle is Dalok, Adherent and a few Shadow Druids, the last stand you will have to make before facing Faldorn himself. Summoning creatures, casting Call Lightning and Entangle will be some of the tactics you will face here so as always, be ready to strike them down!

Once inside, you will meet Faldorn face to face and he will have to be taken down by another Druid, which if you do not have in your party, I suggest you pick up Cernd for this specific battle, which takes place one on one within the fighting pit found inside. For myself, I already had Jaheira in my party and had her take care of Faldorn.

You will have to use spells and a plain Quarterstaff, found within the fighting pit to take Faldorn down as all items on the Druid that enters the fighting pit will be removed for this battle. Do remember to go and pick them up once the battle is over. A few things to keep in mind during this one on one battle is that no outside assistance can be given and also remember to have either Jaheira or Cernd memorize some offensive spells or even a few summoning spells to assist during this magical battle.

BATTLE TIP!  Sent in by Socrates

  • This battle was taken care of by Cernd

The catch of course is that the only things Cernd can take into the challenge is himself and his active spells. All his equipment is dropped at the start of the duel. Having him die on the first attempt I wised up and had more success on the second. I started by having stone skin cast on him, then protection from fire and ice that I cast on him, Garan cast haste on him while Morrigale cast strength on him. Finally Garan cast improved invisibility on him just before meeting Faldorn.

As soon as the duel began Cernd cast Rigid Thinking on Faldorn followed by Insect Plague. Then I started attacking with the staff (plain wood) that was thrown in the pit for each of the combatants. Just when the insect plague wore off he repeated the casting and managed to break through Faldorn's own ironskin (at least 10 hits with the staff). Then with the second insect plague in action Faldorn was unable to cast spells back at Cernd so it was a battle to the death. Cernd's only advantage now, as the invisibility and other magics, except strength, were gone was his own iron skin. The result was that Faldorn finally died with Cernd having only 8 hit points left, a close but well fought battle against a stronger foe. I quickly healed Cernd afterwards, and the Druid council is now under a makeshift command, but much improved conditions are had by all.

LOGAN COPRITH'S DRUID GROVE QUEST

Attained from the High Merchant Logan Coprith, found within the Mayor's House, he will ask that you look into the current troubles that have begun to circle Trademeet and the Druid's Grove. It seems like more and more animals have begun to get closer and closer to Trademeet and each time, only bring more terror to those who live within as they continue to attack anyone in sight. Logan Coprith has captured one of the Druids that he believes is responsible for these attacks and it is Cernd who can be found in his cell and who will join the party as well as show you where the Druid Grove is.

Saving Trademeet from the Shadow Druid's threat will earn each party member 25,250xp and 10,750gp.

RETURNING IHTAFEER'S HEAD QUEST

The reason the Djinn have been taking the caravan and trade away from Trademeet is because there is a Rakshasha that they are looking for who is hiding out somewhere in Trademeet or the surrounding area. The locals have not done much to help the Djinn find this person so they had no other options but to force the locals to assist them. This is where you'll come in as you learn some information required to solving this mystery and bringing this Rakshasha to justice. Speaking with Khan Zahraa, the head Djinn in one of the tents situated outside of Trademeet will begin this quest and this very Rakshasha named Ihtafeer can be found in the Druid Grove within Adratha's Cottage.

Ending this quest will earn the party 10,000xp and will also be given a Scimitar +2 "Rashad's Talon" from Khan Zahraa himself.

Dungeon Master Notes

The Druid Grove didn't really do too much for me and was a quest I really didn't care for nor get into that much. I can't say if it was the general atmosphere or just lack of interest that carried over from Trademeet and to be honest, I was glad it was over.

Although I found it dull, there are those who have enjoyed this quest and areas covered in and around Trademeet and the Druid Grove. You will find most of your journey quick as well as easy for the monsters I fought and faced really never gave me much trouble and if you're properly prepared for those battles, you won't have any difficulty either.

Party Advancement

Once again I ran into Cernd and once again I left him be, not allowing him in my party when I spoke with him a second time in the Druid's Grove and I think it had more to do with how I was feeling towards this area more than Cernd himself. Although, I have heard he is very deadly in Greater Werewolf form and if you like to have a druid or an extra one if you happen to already have Jaheira in your party, he would be the one to add.

My party during the Druid's Grove and after, consisted of the following:

01 Grub Barbarian Half Orc
02 Valygar [Stalker] Human
03 Minsc Ranger Human
04 Jaheira Fighter/Druid Half Elf
05 Korgan [Berserker] Dwarf
06 Aerie Cleric/Mage Avariel
