Invisibility
Spells generally break the caster's invisibility when targeted on anything
other than the caster, with the following specifications:
- Targeted area spells always target a point on the ground, so they break
invisibility even if you click the caster.
- Untargeted spells that create an area effect around the caster do not
break invisibility.
- Targeted red spells break invisibility even when the caster is targeted
(in a suicide-like fashion).
- Spells that create a weapon with which you have to hit someone don't
break invisibility when cast, but you will still break it when you
attack.
As ever, there are a few exceptions to this rule:
- Greater Command does not break invisibility when you target the caster
even though it is a targeted area spell.
- Mordenkainen's Sword breaks invisibility even though you do not target
anything.
- Otiluke's Resilient Sphere breaks invisibility even if you target
the caster.
- Simulacrum breaks invisibility even though you do not target anything.
- Sunfire breaks invisibility even though you do not target anything.
- Wail of the Banshee breaks invisibility even though you do not target
anything.
Some spells provide interesting (in some cases downright cheesy)
combinations with invisibility because they affect enemies while still
preserving invisibility:
- Blade Barrier.
- False Dawn.
- Holy Word.
- Greater Command (when targeted on the caster).
- Limited Wish.
- Nature's Beauty.
- Oracle.
- Project Image.
- Repulse Undead.
- True Sight.
- Unholy Word.
- Wish.
