Has anyone read this book? A co-worker told me it was excellent, but I'm not sure if I trust his taste. I'm also concerned that it looks like this Rothfuss guy may be as prolific a writer as George R.R. Martin and I'm not sure I'm looking for another series that will come out with a book every three to four years.

I have read it, bought into the hype almost two years ago and bought the paperback. It was good, entertaining. Not super awesome but well worth the read. Still waiting for the sequel. It is kinda generic but it treats the "poor orphan makes his way into the world and gains fame and fortune" in a good way. It also seems to be setting the readers up for some kind of twist but we shall see.
Get it if you are out of stuff to read if you have other stuff it might be worth to wait a couple of years and see if he manages to finish. |

I guess he finally is releasing the 2nd book in March. Now that there are two books, I'll give the first one a chance.

This was a 99 cent special on Amazons ebook list. It was a pretty good read,
especially for the price. It had a better plot than the cereal boxes I also read. |

I finished the first book. I really enjoyed it, but now that I look back on it, I'm not sure that anything actually happened. Strangely, I'm looking forward to reading the second book, although first I have to get through Dance of Dragons. Its been killing me avoiding that thread.

Just finished it, quite liked it. Rothfuss has a nice turn of phrase, and even when he delves into fantasy cliches, he does it well. Starting second book today.

It has a very well polished story. I liked some of the bits (most of the outdoor parts, banter with professors) hated the others (moody bits, the girlfriend who reminds me of a certain BG book character - I loathe those books) and I also like how he words his sentences/dialogue. I also like how the main character is open-minded and a lot wiser than the likes of, say, Rand Al'thor and a lot of other fantasy protagonists. It's almost like he's supposed to be in a supporting role. I enjoy reading about the story from his perspective.
